Black Cat Footprint Craft

For the footprint version, kids can dip their foot in black paint and press it onto the paper to form the cat’s body. Once the paint dries, glue on the printable cat head and tail. Materials

  • White paper or card stock
  • Free Printable Templates
  • Black Paint
  • Paper plates to hold the paint

Instructions

  1. Print the free printable template on white paper. Place the page on a flat surface with enough room for little hands and feet to press down.
  2. Set out a paper plate as a simple paint palette. Pour a small amount of black paint or acrylic paint onto the plate.
  3. Use a paint brush to carefully cover the child’s entire hand or foot in an even coat of paint. Add a tiny bit of water if the paint is too thick, but keep it opaque for a solid print.
  4. For the footprint cat, line up the heel where the cat’s body will go on the template. For the handprint cat, line up the palm where the cat’s body will go, with fingers pointing downward like little legs.
  5. Press straight down onto the printed paper template. Help your child press gently across the palm or heel and each finger or toe so the print transfers clearly. Lift straight up to avoid smudges.
  6. Set the page aside to dry completely. If you want to make more than one, repeat on fresh printed pages.
  7. Cut out the cat head from the printable sheet. Glue it in place with a glue stick where shown on the template.
  8. Add details. Stick on googly eyes or draw features with a black marker. You can add a bow tie, whiskers, or a moon and stars. Older sibling helpers can draw extras or write a message.
  9. Optional background choices. Leave the design as is, mount it on black paper for contrast, or fold a piece of cardstock to turn your art into a Halloween greeting card.
  10. Display and keep. Let everything dry, then hang your fun craft for Halloween party decor or tuck it into a keepsake folder to remember those adorable Halloween handprints and footprints.
