Spring is in full bloom, and with it comes the colorful and joyous celebration of Vaisakhi, also known as Baisakhi! It’s that wonderful time of the year when the Sikh community, along with others, gather to mark the start of the harvest season and much more.
What is Vaisakhi?
Vaisakhi isn’t just a time for thanksgiving but also a day of great significance in the Sikh religion. It’s celebrated around April 14th each year and symbolizes the formation of the Khalsa Panth of warriors under Guru Gobind Singh in 1699. This is the time that Sikhism was born as a collective faith.
This Sikh festival is also known by the names Baisakhi, or Jayanti.
Vaisakhi is steeped in history and tradition, making it a perfect learning opportunity for both Sikh and non-Sikh families.
Understanding and celebrating different communities’ holidays and festivals can be a beautiful and enriching experience, and something that we’re passionate about.
How is Vaisakhi Celebrated?
In London and other major cities, the celebration of Vaisakhi typically unfolds with a parade known as the Nagar Kirtan. This procession is a sight to behold, with the Panj Pyare at the forefront, guiding the community through the streets as they recite shabads, or sacred hymns.
The revered Guru Granth Sahib, on a beautifully decorated float, follows the Panj Pyare, symbolizing guidance and enlightenment on this festive journey.
Recently a sikh friend mentioned to me that you don’t see much representation for sikh holidays like Vaisakhi, compared to others like Christmas or Ramadan so that’s why I decided to make these vaisakhi coloring pages, and thats also why these coloring pages are perfect for everyone, whether in the classroom or at home, to engage with the spirit of Vaisakhi!

Vaisakhi, rooted in Punjabi culture, resonates with the vibrant spirit of the community—its lively music, exuberant dance, and a riot of colors that mirror the rich hues of Punjabi fields ready for harvest.
These colouring pages are a fun and engaging way to introduce children to the heritage and traditions of Punjab. They can learn about the significance of each symbol while unleashing their creativity with a palette of colors.
Let’s take a closer look at each coloring page:
The first page is a vibrant scene including a kite, dhol (drum), and sweets like laddu, which are iconic symbols of celebration. Kite flying is a popular Vaisakhi pastime, and the dhol’s rhythm calls everyone to join in the festivities, while sweets symbolize the joy and the spirit of sharing.
Our second page features a kite framing the cheerful greeting “Happy Vaisakhi.” It’s reminiscent of the clear, blue skies during this season, often dotted with colorful kites—each one soaring high like the spirits of those celebrating.
The third coloring sheet showcases the Khanda, the emblem of the Sikh faith, representing divine knowledge, strength, and unity—core principles that are especially honored on Vaisakhi.
Next, we have a majestic Gurdwara, the place of worship for Sikhs. It’s not just a spiritual haven but also a community kitchen, underscoring the importance of equality and togetherness during Vaisakhi.
Lastly, the Trishool coloring page reflects resilience and power. While it is not directly associated with Vaisakhi, it’s reminiscent of the broader spectrum of cultural and historical narratives that intertwine during this time.
Whether you call it Vaisakhi, Baisakhi, or Vasakhi, this festival’s essence remains the same—a celebration of new beginnings, unity, and joy, and one of the most important festivals of sikhism.
