Spring has sprung, and with it comes the delightful chirping of chicks and the warm, sunny embrace of longer days. It’s the perfect time to get crafty with the kiddos, and what better way to welcome the season than creating your very own fluffy, yellow friend?
This super cute paper plate chick craft is not only adorable but it’s also incredibly simple to make, meaning it’s perfect for kids as young as toddlers and preschoolers. It’s a great activity to share with your little ones, especially with Easter just around the corner.

Chick crafts are very popular during the Spring season, in schools, preschools, playgroups, nurseries and all kinds of child care settings, and for good reason. Who can resist these sweet fluffy yellow creatures?
New baby chicks hatching out remind us that Spring is the season of new beginnings, and ties in very nicely to all kinds of Spring and Easter learning topics.
Did you know that chicks begin to communicate with their mother and siblings even before they hatch? They can peep and chirp away from within their shells.
Now, while our crafty chick won’t be peeping any time soon, it’ll surely bring a dash of cheer to your home!
Materials for Easy Paper Plate Chick
Getting ready for this craft is a breeze because you’ll only need some everyday items that are likely lying around the house.
We’re talking about a plain old paper plate, some sunny yellow paint to spread some cheer, a pair of those fun googly eyes that bring any craft to life, a few strands of fluffy yellow feathers to give our chick that soft, cuddly look, and a scrap of orange felt for its beak and feet.
If you don’t have googly eyes in your craft stash then don’t worry, we’ve put together some free printable eyes for crafts that can be used as an alternative in a pinch.

So, grab a paintbrush, some glue to hold it all together, and scissors to snip out the shapes, and you’re all set.
Paper Plate Chick
Materials
- Paper plate
- Yellow paint
- 2 large googly eyes
- Yellow feathers
- Orange felt square or orange construction paper
- Glue
Tools
- Paintbrush
- Scissors
Instructions
- Start by taking the paper plate and covering it with yellow paint. It's okay if it gets a little messy - that's part of the fun!

- Once you're done, set it aside to dry. Maybe have a little snack break or dance-off to pass the time.

- Once the paint is dry, it's time for the eyes. Glue the googly eyes onto the paper plate. Place them where you think they give the best character to your chick.
If you don't have googly eyes to hand, use these printable eyes as a subsitute. - Now, let's give our chick some personality! Cut out a beak from the orange felt. It doesn't have to be perfect - asymmetry is charming!
Glue the beak under the eyes.
- Next, we'll add the feet. Cut out two little feet shapes
and stick them to the back of the paper plate at the bottom. This chick is starting to stand on its own two feet, quite literally!
- For the finishing touches, glue down the yellow feathers at the top of the chick's head and on the sides to represent the wings. Feathers are fun because they can be a bit wild and make our chick look extra fluffy.

- Set your creation aside to dry completely. Once it's ready, you can display your sunny new friend on the wall, the fridge, or anywhere that needs a sprinkle of spring spirit!

And there you have it, a simple and fun craft to celebrate the season. This paper plate chick is a little burst of joy that you and your little ones brought to life together.
It’s a reminder of the creativity and laughter that fills your home. So, display it proudly and let it chirp (metaphorically, of course) about the fun you had making it.
Happy crafting!
