Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Template and Papers: First, begin by printing the free template that we have provided. Once it is printed, carefully cut out the individual patterns. Now, using a pen, trace these patterns onto the respective colors of construction papers. After tracing, use a pair of scissors to cut them out, following the outlines you've traced.
  2. Begin the Assembly: Now that all pieces are ready, it's time to start assembling your scarecrow craft. Arrange all the cut out pieces on a flat surface, organizing them in a way that you can easily identify each part - the shirt, the hat, the face, and other elements.
  3. Work on the Scarecrow's Shirt: Take the piece representing the scarecrow's shirt and fold it gently to give it a realistic and three-dimensional look. Next, find the pocket piece and attach it to the shirt using a bit of glue or double-sided tape, placing it where a pocket should naturally sit.
  4. Hat Assembly: Now, shift your focus to assembling the scarecrow’s hat. Use the cut pieces from the template to put together a charming hat, applying a little glue to hold the parts together securely.
  5. Creating a Characterful Face: Now, let's bring the scarecrow to life by assembling its face. Begin with a rectangular piece of black construction paper. Cut narrow strips from this to craft the scarecrow’s hair. You'll need to create two bunches of these strips. Attach these bunches to either side of the face, creating a balanced look. Above the face, secure the hat that you've assembled in the previous step. Once you're happy with how the face looks, glue it onto the upper end of a popsicle stick to create a handy handle for your scarecrow puppet.
  6. Final Assembly: As we near the end of our craft journey, grab another popsicle stick and attach it to the back of the scarecrow's shirt, creating a sturdy backbone for your scarecrow. Now, align the face portion (attached to the popsicle stick) with the shirt part, and glue them together to form a unified scarecrow figure.
  7. Voila, Your Craft is Ready!: Congratulations, you have successfully created your very own scarecrow puppet! Hold it up and admire your handiwork. It's now ready to join in on your fall adventures!

Notes

You can vary the colors of the construction paper to give your scarecrow different colored hat, shirt and so on.

Why not experimet with drawing different types of facial expressions and emotions for your scarecrow too?
