There’s something so fun about a haunted house with wonky windows, little ghosts, and a mysterious moon peeking out from behind the roof! This printable haunted house craft lets kids build their own spooky house using simple paper pieces. They can choose the ready-colored version or color in their own haunted house before cutting and sticking everything together.
It’s an easy paper craft for a cozy afternoon during spooky season, a classroom Halloween activity, or a Halloween party craft table. With friendly ghosts and plenty of room to get creative, this house is more cute than creepy!

You can grab the free printable template near the bottom of the page, then gather a few basic craft supplies to get started.
Build Your Own Haunted House for Halloween
This fun Halloween craft gives children a chance to put together a spooky scene piece by piece. The printable includes house sections, pointed roofs, arched windows, three ghosts, a moon, bats, and a black bird to perch on top of the house.
The finished haunted house has a taller section at the back and a smaller section layered in front, giving it that wonderfully uneven haunted mansion look. The colored version features purple walls, yellow windows, and gray roof details, while the black-and-white version leaves the color choices up to your little artists.
Children can follow the example on the printable or try different haunted house designs by moving the pieces around. Maybe their ghosts are having a Halloween party, or perhaps the bird on the roof is keeping an eye out for visitors!

What’s Included in the Printable Haunted House Craft?
The free PDF contains six printable pages, with three pages for each version of the craft.
Ready-Colored Haunted House Template
The first three pages include all the colored pieces needed to assemble the house and decorate the scene. This version is a great way to enjoy some Halloween fun when children want to get straight to the cutting and sticking.
It’s also handy for younger kids who might find coloring every piece a little tiring, or for group Halloween activities where you have limited time.

Black-and-White Haunted House Template
The second set of three pages includes the matching outline pieces for children to color themselves.
If your kids enjoy Halloween coloring pages, this version adds an extra creative stage before building begins. They can use markers, crayons, or colored pencils to make a purple spooky house, a green haunted mansion, or a rainbow home for some very friendly ghosts.
Both versions make the same basic house, so you can choose whichever suits your children best.

Materials for Your Haunted House Paper Craft
You only need the printed template, scissors, and a glue stick for the colored version. If you choose the black-and-white pages, have some coloring supplies ready too.
Normal printer paper works well, especially if you plan to glue the finished craft onto a background. White cardstock is another option if you would like sturdier pieces that are easier to display.
A sheet of black paper or colored cardstock makes a lovely background for your spooky haunted house. You can also set out a white pencil for drawing spider webs, scraps of tissue paper for extra texture, or Halloween stickers for children who want to add a little bit more detail.
How to Make the Printable Haunted House Craft
Set out the pieces on a clear table so children have enough open space to arrange their house before gluing. The small example at the top of the printable is helpful to keep nearby while they work.
- Print your chosen template pages.
Choose the three colored pages or the three black-and-white pages. You only need one set to make a complete haunted house. - Color the pieces if needed.
If you are using the black-and-white version, color the walls, roofs, windows, and decorations before cutting. This makes it easier for little hands to hold the page steady. - Cut out the craft pieces.
Cut around the outside of the house sections, roofs, windows, ghosts, moon, bats, and bird. Younger children may need help with the smaller shapes, especially the bats and the details around the ghosts. - Arrange the main house sections.
Position the taller rectangular wall toward the back and place the shorter wall in front, slightly to the right. Add a triangular roof to each section. Try the arrangement before sticking the pieces down. - Add the windows and roof details.
Arrange the five arched windows across the two sections of the house, using the example as a guide. Add the wide gray roof piece across the front section and place the long narrow gray strip along the bottom of the house. - Glue the house together.
Once you are happy with the layout, glue the overlapping pieces together or stick them onto your background paper. Press gently around the edges to help everything stay in place. - Add the spooky decorations.
Place the moon behind the rooftops, arrange the bats nearby, and perch the black bird on a roof. Finish by adding the three little ghosts wherever you like. - Decorate and display.
Draw stars, spider webs, a winding path, or a black cat beside the house. Let the glue dry, then display your finished haunted house as a homemade Halloween decoration.
Fine Motor Practice With a Spooky Twist
This is a fun activity for practicing fine motor skills through coloring, cutting, and sticking. Children work on controlling their movements as they color smaller details, use scissors around the shapes, and position each piece.

Arranging the house also encourages children to think about shapes, size, and position. Which roof fits the taller wall? Where will the windows go? What happens when one section overlaps another?
For young kids, you can cut out the trickier decorations ahead of time and let them focus on arranging and gluing. Older children can take on the detailed cutting and add their own drawings around the house. These small adjustments make it a great activity for siblings or mixed-age groups.
More Ways to Enjoy Your Haunted House Craft
Once the glue has dried, there are plenty of ways to keep the Halloween fun going.
Make a spooky neighborhood. Arrange several finished houses together on a wall or classroom display. Different color choices and ghost placements will give each house its own personality.

Use it for spooky stories. Ask children who lives in their house and what happens when someone knocks on the door. Younger children can tell their story aloud, while older children can write a short Halloween adventure.
Create a ghost puppet. Before gluing down every ghost, attach one to a popsicle stick. Children can move it around the house as they tell their story.
Set up a Halloween party craft table. Print a mixture of colored and black-and-white templates so children can choose their favorite. Put a completed example in the middle of the table for inspiration.
