How to Make a Moving Eyes Bat

Halloween Moving Eyes Bat Craft
Make this fun moving eyes bat craft for Halloween! Kids will love sliding the paper mechanism to make their bat’s eyes move from side to side.
Materials
- Black construction paper
- White construction paper
- Cardboard
- Scissors
- Glue stick
- White marker
- Black marker
- Bat template
Tools
- Printer for the template (or draw free hand)
Instructions
- Step 1: Prepare the bat
Print and cut out the template pieces. Trace the bat body and wings onto black construction paper, then cut them out
- Step 2: Add the wing details
Use a white marker to draw lines and shapes on the bat’s wings. These simple details help the wings stand out and give your bat more character
- Step 3: Draw the mouth and attach the wings
Use the white marker to draw a friendly smile on the bat’s face. You could add little fangs too, if your child would like their bat to look a bit more spook
- Step 4: Make the moving eye piece
Cut a circle from white construction paper. It should be a little smaller than the bat’s body.
Next, cut a second circle from cardboard, making it slightly larger than the white paper. Cut a small circle near the bottom of the cardboard. This is where children can place their fingers to move the eye piece.
This hole will only be visible at the back of the craft.
Place the white paper on top of the cardboard, but do not glue it down. It needs to be able to slide from side to side.
Glue the bat onto the cardboard around the outside edges, taking care not to glue the white paper underneath. The white paper should still be free to move
- Step 5: Add the eyes
Draw two black pupils onto the white paper with a black marker. Position them so they show through the bat’s eye area
- Step 6: Test the moving eyes
Put your fingers through the circle at the back of the cardboard and gently slide the white paper from side to side. Watch the bat’s eyes move!
