How to Play the Blindfold Drawing Game

The blindfold drawing game is simple and requires minimal setup. Here’s how to get started:

how to play the blindfold drawing game

Gather Your Materials: You’ll need blindfolds (you can use a piece of fabric or a sleeping mask), paper, markers or pencils, and a list of items to draw. Having a large tin to hold the flash cards with drawing prompts can add a fun element of surprise.

Optional – Divide into Teams: A good group size is about four to six members per team. This ensures everyone gets a turn and keeps the game lively.

Blindfold and Position: One team member, the blindfolded person, stands at an arms length from the drawing paper, if it’s attached to the wall. You can also play the game sitting at the table, or even with a large piece of paper on the floor.

The rest of the group members can stand nearby ready to guess.

Draw and Guess: The sighted person, or group leader, picks an item from the box of flash cards and instructs the blindfolded person to draw it. Whisper it to the blind folded member so that the other team members don’t know what it is. The aim of the person is to sketch the item while the remaining members guess what it is. A time limit of one to two minutes keeps the game exciting.

Switch and Repeat: After each round, switch roles and pass to the next person so everyone gets a turn to draw and guess.

At the end of the activity, the group who managed to guess the most correct answers is the winner. This traditional blindfold game is a great team building activity,  party game, or a bonding activity to do as a family.  As members of the group work together to draw and guess, this activity is a really fun way to work on group dynamics, and problem solving as a tram.

The number of items you draw depends on how much time you have, and how many people you have in each team.

If you want to include different colored markers, you can have a selection nearby and the blindfolded person points and says which color they would like, then a team member can put that color marker into their hand.

With young kids, you can also play non competitively by choosing items to try blind drawing and just do the activity free flow without teams.
