One of my boys went through a spider-man drawing phase that lasted literally for years! He started with the basic cartoon Spiderman drawings and progressed until he was creating super realistic and impressive Spider-man portraits, along with other Marvel characters like Venom. It was so cool to see his growth as an artist during this stage.

Materials

  • Paper
  • Pencil
  • Crayons or pencils to color
  • Black marker to outline

Instructions

  1. First Step: Draw the Head

Begin by sketching a basic shape for Spiderman's head. This will be a simple oval or round shape, depending on your child’s preference.
  2. Second Step: The Big Eyes

Spiderman’s mask features large, expressive eyes. Draw two big shapes for the eyes, ensuring they occupy a significant portion of the face.
  3. Third Step: Inner Eye Lines

Add another line inside each eye to create the iconic look of Spiderman's mask. These lines give the eyes depth and character.
  4. Fourth Step: Vertical Lines for Web Pattern

Start the web pattern on Spiderman's face by drawing several vertical lines across the head. This begins to set the stage for the detailed web that covers his mask.
  5. Fifth Step: Horizontal Web Lines

Connect the vertical lines with wavy horizontal lines to complete the web pattern on Spiderman's mask. This step really starts to bring the character to life!
  6. Sixth Step: Draw the Body

For the body, draw a rectangle below the head. This doesn't have to be perfect—the slightly imperfect shapes add to the charm of a child’s drawing.
  7. Seventh Step: Short Legs and Feet

Add short legs and simple feet to the body. The shortness of the legs contributes to making the drawing cute and kid-friendly.
  8. Eighth Step: Arms

Sketch two arms extending from the sides of the body. These can be straight or slightly bent.
  9. Ninth Step: Adding Suit Details

Draw a spider symbol on the chest of Spiderman's costume and begin adding the spider web pattern across the arms and body. These details are crucial for making your drawing recognizable as Spiderman.
  10. Final Step: Coloring

Now for the fun part—coloring! Use red for most of the suit, blue for the pants part, black for the web and eye outlines, and yellow for the belt. Encourage your child to stay within the lines for practice, but remind them that it’s okay to go outside too—creativity is all about expression!
