Julia Donaldson’s books are such well loved classics, and The Highway Rat is one of our favourites. It’s brilliant to see books like this being turned into board games, so that you can tie in your story time with play time. It can only help to encourage and nurture a love of reading and a deeper connection to the stories, so I think it’s a great idea!
The Highway Rat Stand and Deliver Board Game from Paul Lamond Games is beautifully illustrated, and very true to the book.
Goodbye Christopher Robin is the true story of the family behind the famous and well-loved Winnie-the-Pooh. It’s brilliantly made and really captivating.
It’s not often we come across a historical true story movie like this that appeals to the whole family, but it was a hit with my children aged 6-9 as well as with us parents. It took the kids about 10 or 15 minutes to get into, so at the beginning I wasn’t sure if it was going to keep their interest but by the end of the movie they were gripped! I found it a refreshing change to the usual animated movies that we watch with the kids.
At the end of the First World War, beloved children’s author A. A. Milne (Domhnall Gleeson) creates the magical world of Winnie-the-Pooh—which brings him immediate acclaim. But the books’ international success comes at a cost to the author, his young son Christopher Robin (Will Tilston) and his wife Daphne (Margot Robbie), in this beautifully filmed, poignant story about fame and family that also stars Kelly Macdonald.
Follow the journey A. A. Milne and his family embark on when the birth of Winnie-the-Pooh grasps the attention of not just Britain, but the entire world, as everyone falls for the warm, soft, fuzzy bear who conquers our hearts just as much today as he did back then.
I found the story of A.A Milne and his family really fascinating, as I admit I hadn’t really thought more deeply into Winnie the Pooh’s origins and what effect the fame of this story would have had on the family, particularly Christopher Robin (or Billy Moon as he was actually known to his family – as you’ll see in the film!)
At times their story is desperately sad, but there are moments that warm your heart. It’s a story that lingers in your mind after watching, not quickly forgotten, which is the mark of a great movie.

Meet the HiPP Buddies – the new addition to the HiPP Family! They’re a group of hard working furry friends who have one ultimate goal – to make the finest organic pouches. Each has their own task on the HiPP farm – they pick the fruit and vegetables, mash them, stir them and finally fill the pouches.
I’ve been using some of the HiPP jars with Baby N since we first started weaning her onto solid food at around the 6 months mark, so I was really interested to try out the new HiPP buddies pouches with her – especially with the cute new characters to add a bit of fun to mealtimes.
We like all of the characters (N loves all animals!) but Finley the Fox is my personal favourite as I find him very cute.
There are sweet and savoury pouches, with a good range of choices available.

My boys are all very active and love sports, especially football (2 Arsenal supporters and one Man City supporter!) and they also tend to love little collectable pocket money toys, so when I heard about the new sports themed collectables from Zuru, I was sure they would be interested!
Smashers are fun little characters, each with a sports theme and to find out which character you have inside you have to smash the balls that they come in.
These are some of the smashers that my boys have collected so far…
…and we were also sent the Smash bus which stores up to 50 smashers characters, and comes with two rare exclusives, which they were very happy to add to their collection.
The bus is a great addition as it helps keep them all nice and tidy, and it opens out into a sports pitch with goals to shoot the characters into
With these type of collectables, I find my kids love the anticipation of finding out which one is inside, and then they love the swapping and trading amongst each other. Smashing the balls open first adds an extra element of fun to this, which is quite different to other types of collectables that are normally in blind bags, and it links in with the sports theme really nicely.
Smashers will suit kids from around age 4-10 (my boys are 6, 8 and 9) and there are over 100 to collect! They are available from retailers including Argos, and The Entertainer
Jammie Dodgers are my favourite biscuits so naturally when I heard about a new variety of Jammie Dodgers Oaty Bites designed as a healthier biscuit snack for young children I was keen to hear more. We’ve been trying out the new Oaty Bites and they’ve been a hit with the whole family.
The Jammie Dodgers Oaty Bites are mini biscuits that come in multipacks of five little bags. They are made with wholegrain oats and raspberry fruit pieces, they contain absolutely no artificial colours, flavours, preservatives or sweeteners. They also have no GM ingredients and are suitable for Vegetarians
They’re lower in sugar than most kid’s mini biscuits but they are really tasty and do feel like a treat for my kids. I’ve also tried them and enjoyed them myself too!
Jammie Dodgers Oaty Bites work well as a healthy treat for after school, or in lunchboxes, and my toddler really enjoys them too.
Jammie Dodgers Oaty Bites are available to buy in Tesco, with an RRP of £1.69. I will definitely buy more in future, as I’m really pleased with the balance they have with being healthier but still being really appealing to the kids.
Would you like to try Jammie Dodgers Oaty Bites with your family? We’re giving away a full box of 12 multipacks to one lucky In The Playroom reader!
