Handprint crafts are a classic favorite for kids and parents alike. There’s something magical about transforming a simple handprint into adorable animals, quirky shapes, or fun designs.

But what if we took it a step further? Instead of painting your hands, this activity focuses on using hand outlines to create adorable animals.

What makes this activity even more special is how customizable it is. By changing how you position your hands, like raising a few fingers or curling knuckles, you can create unique shapes that inspire creativity and fun. This simple, mess-free art project is perfect for kids of any age, offering them a chance to unleash their imagination while exploring cool hand drawing ideas.

Handprint giraffe and handprint cat drawing ideas for kids

The pictures and video in the blog post were made by our kids aged 8 to 13.

Today, we’re exploring two fun designs for handpring drawing ideas: a giraffe and a cat. Both are easy to make and use creative hand positions to bring these animals to life.

Whether you’re looking for a simple craft to fill a lazy afternoon or want to explore cool hand drawing ideas with your little ones, this activity is perfect. Today, we’ll show you how to create two fun designs – a giraffe and a cat – that your kids will love.

Grab your paper, pencils, and markers, and let’s get started with our animal handprint drawing.

Giraffe Handprint Drawing

Giraffes are such fascinating creatures, and their tall, graceful necks make them a perfect subject for handprint art. For this hand drawing idea, we used two fingers to represent the giraffe’s head and ossicones (those cute little horn-like structures). Here’s how we did it:

  1. Position Your Hand: Place your hand on a piece of paper with your palm flat and two fingers (your index and middle fingers) raised to represent the giraffe’s head and horns.
  2. Trace the Outline: Use a pencil to carefully trace around your hand, including the raised fingers.
  3. Add Details: Once the outline is complete, add features like a long neck, spots, a smiling face, and a tiny tail.
  4. Color It In: Using alcohol markers or any other coloring tools, bring your giraffe to life with shades of yellow, brown, and black.

This activity is an excellent way for kids to practice their drawing skills while creating something unique and adorable.

Cat Handprint Drawing

Who doesn’t love a cute, playful kitty? Our cat handprint craft uses a clever trick: curl two knuckles to create the ears! This simple change in hand position makes the final design even more adorable.

Here’s how to draw your handprint cat:

  1. Position Your Hand: Place your hand on the paper with your palm flat, but curl two fingers at the top to form the ears.
  2. Trace the Outline: Carefully trace around your hand, ensuring you capture the shape of the curled knuckles for the ears.
  3. Add Details: After tracing, use a pencil to add a face, whiskers, a curvy tail, and any other features to complete the cat.
  4. Color It In: Choose colors like black, gray, or even fun patterns like stripes or spots. Alcohol markers are great for adding bold, vibrant colors.

Here is the hand position for your handprint cat.

This handprint craft is a great way to teach kids how small changes in shape can lead to entirely new drawing ideas.

We colored our handprint animals using alcohol markers, these particular ones were bought from TikTok shop. Read our full guide on alcohol markers if you want to find out more about this type of pens.
