The First Hippo on the Moon is a funny picture book written by David Walliams and illustrated by Tony Ross, a pair who have worked together before to produce number one best selling book “The Slightly Annoying Elephant” and the very well known “Gangsta Granny” and “Demon Dentist”
The First Hippo on the Moon is a tale of two hippos, both with the same dream – to be the first hippo on the moon. One is rich, and the other is poor but dares to “dream big” I will leave you to guess which hippo achieves the dream, but the ending is not too predictable there are a couple of little twists in there.
There are jokes throughout the book, in the main text and in little speech bubbles throughout which will entertain the parent reading the book as well as the child! The is a Hedgehog couple featured who are great in this regard.
I read this book with my 3 year old Mr R and he really enjoyed it, wanting to read it again straight after finishing.
The pictures are bright and colourful and this edition is a large hardback which is a little more special than the standard paper back, and is a great book to return to again and again for bedtime stories. It will suit children of around 3-6 years.
