This perfect activity isn’t just a regular craft project. The project is designed for kids of all ages and is a good reason for some adult supervision, as it involves cutting and gluing. Plus, the activity can also be an opportunity for letter recognition – say hello to the letter “S” for sloth!

We’ve thoughtfully designed the craft to include each little detail of this adorable creature – the sloth’s head, sides of the face cutout, sloth body, sloth arms, and even the upper and lower legs. We also have short leg patterns, round ends, and face pattern included in the sloth craft templates.

The project starts by using brown paint or markers on brown construction paper to give the sloth a lifelike look. The back of the sloth is a slightly lighter shade than the body of the sloth. The printable template includes adorable sloth eye-patch cutouts to accentuate the facial features of our paper sloth.

Remember the fine motor skills we mentioned earlier? This comes into play when pasting the eye patches and creating the sloth’s facial features. Every small addition, from the sloth figure to the sloth legs, adds character and detail to the craft. To add to the fun, why not try making a brown paper bag sloth using the same template?

For the finishing touch, hang your sloth from cut-out tree branches, making it look like it’s lounging in its natural habitat. You can glue the sloth’s arms to a popsicle stick or even twine to create this effect.

  • Craft paper (dark and light brown)
  • Abaca string or twine (natural)
  • Scissors
  • Template

Tools

  • Printer

Instructions

  1. Gather all your materials ready to get started on the sloth craft.
  2. Let's kick things off by cutting out the provided sloth template. Make sure your scissors are sharp enough to give you a clean cut, but remember to be careful!
  3. Now, take those perfectly cut sloth parts and paste them onto your dark and light brown craft papers. This will form the basis of our sloth, and don't worry if it doesn't look perfect – that's part of the charm!
  4. Next, we're going to give our sloth a little definition. Using your brown marker, outline or create a border around the sloth parts. Need a visual guide? No worries, just look at the photo we've provided!
  5. It's time to get creative and give our sloth some personality! Let's create a fur pattern on its body using the same brown marker. If you're unsure, you can follow the pattern on the guide photos. Remember, no two sloths are the same, so feel free to add your own touch!
  6. We're halfway there! Now, let's make the head. Stick together the remaining two parts to form a koala-like shape. Then, use your brown marker to draw in the eyes. If you need some inspiration, take a peek at the guide photo to achieve that adorable sloth eye look.
  7. Ready for the next step? Grab your black marker and draw the nose. Don't forget, sloths have distinct noses, so let's try to capture that!
  8. Our sloth is almost complete! Now, connect the body and the head using some glue. It's starting to take shape, right?
  9. Here's a fun little touch - let's draw small lines on the wood clips using the brown marker. This will add some texture and make our sloth look even more realistic.
  10. Now, let's prepare our sloth's tree branch. Cut a piece of abaca twine or string that's not too long, then tie it securely. This will serve as the branch or stem where our cute little sloth hangs out. Check the guide photos for the best way to tie it.
  11. It's hanging time! Attach your sloth onto the abaca string or twine using the wood clips. It should look like your sloth is happily lounging on its tree branch.
  12. And voila! You've just made an adorable sloth! Amazing, right? And guess what, you can create as many as you want. They make for perfect decorations, gifts, or just cute companions.

Notes

1. Be careful when using the scissors.
2. Choose the proper materials to achieve the aspired outcome.
3. Let your creativity flow in your work
