Earlier this month we went to Legoland to take part in one of their special Star Wars days. As well as the Star Wars Miniland attraction, which has been recently updated with a new giant Death Star model, they also have plenty of Star Wars characters walking around the park for meet and greet and photo opportunities, and plenty of other Star Wars themed activities to take part in too.

We always enjoy our trips to Legoland, with kids age 4, 6 and 7 it’s really the ideal theme park for their age groups, and of course they are big fans of Lego too! Visiting on a special day like the Star Wars day adds a bit of novelty to your trip to Legoland, especially if you visit quite often. It’s great that Legoland keep up the variety by including various event days like this within their annual calendar.

As you can see above, R loved meeting the characters, like these Storm troopers. I should have planned ahead and dressed up the boys in Star Wars costumes too! Many children and adults visiting the park did dress up, and there was a contest for best dressed Star Wars costume during the day.

For Star Wars fans, one of the highlights of a visit to Legoland Windsor has to be a trip to the new Star Wars Miniland. It is really impressive, with over 1.5 million bricks used in total, and over 1,500 models included.

Here the boys have gone into one of the viewing tunnels to look out over one of the Star Wars scenes in the middle of the miniland exhibition.

The miniland Star Wars section is indoors and is quite atmospheric. Most of the models have lights and sounds, and many of them also move which makes this miniland area quite interactive.

All different Star Wars environments and terrains are covered in the exhibition, and there is so much detail in each one.

The finale of the Star Wars miniland features a brand new Death Star model, Darth Vader’s ultimate super weapon! The model is made with an impressive 500,000 bricks and measures 2.4 metre wide, 3 metre high.

LAST PIECES PUT IN PLACE ON 500,000 LEGO® BRICK DEATH STAR LEGOLAND® Model Makers Giorgio Pastero and Phoebe Rumbol lift the top piece into place, onto one of the biggest and most impressive LEGO® Star Wars™ models ever created - a 500,000 brick LEGO® Star Wars™ recreation of The Death Star. The operation took three days as the massive new 2.4 metre wide, 3 metre high creation was carefully hoisted into position and the final bricks were put in place. The hefty 860kg perfectly spherical model took 15 Model Makers three months to build and will be the centrepiece of an epic new finale at the LEGO®Star Wars™ Miniland Model Display when the Resort opens on 11 March and guests will be able to trigger special effects and bright the scene to life. The Death Star is the focal point for a thrilling scene depicting the Rebel Alliance attack on the moon sized space station in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. As well as the 860kg spherical Death Star model, the scene also feature 16 Alliance ships swooping to destroy it with sound and light effects triggered by guests.

Just after the Death Star model, there’s a life size Darth Vader that you can pose with too, which my boys loved!

We would definitely recommend the Star Wars miniland. If you’re a Star Wars fan, it’s worth making a trip to Legoland to check this out, and if you’re planning a trip to Legoland already, definitely pop in and enjoy this feature!
