10 Things You Need For Successful Remote Working

We’ve all experienced working from home since the beginning of the pandemic, and whether you are doing it long term or you are choosing to split your time between the home and the office, you need to make sure that your remote efforts are a success. Not only do you want to ensure that you are set up for remote working, you want to make sure that you are able to carry out your duties successfully.

Working from home is a success for a lot of people. Sure, you might have seen complaints all over social media, but that doesn’t mean that you will find it difficult to work from home yourself. In fact, you’ll find it very easy to work your job if you know you have flexibility when you need it. Remote working offers that; the chance to make appointments and go about your day without the time pressures of a commute. You can see the benefits of remote working when you do it for long enough, but if you want to continue it long term, you need to make sure that you have the right IT support and the right set up at home. With this in mind, here are other things that you need to have for successful remote working.

  1. Be careful with IT security: It is challenging to work without optimized and secure IT systems. Make sure that you get around-the-clock access to IT support services in London.
Proven solutions and rapid response time can impact your productivity and ensure that you can meet your project deadlines.  Accessing remotely to your device allows the providers to solve any issue and keep your systems protected.
  2. Replicate the space at your old office. When you’re in the office, you have things set up a certain way. If you use highlighters and sticky notes, use them at home. If you have a printer set up, you need to make sure that you have the same. The office chair that you find comfortable can also be bought for your home office. It’ll keep you comfortable and motivated enough to work well.
  3. Get dressed. It’s super tempting to dress in pajamas for working from home, right? Well, it’s not conducive to productivity, and you need to be productive. You don’t have to stick to a dress code, but a smart casual look is important if you want to feel like you’re at work and not just typing stuff at home. Wear shoes, too, because though you may find your slippers comfortable, you’re going to struggle to really connect to the working environment without them!
  4. Talk about equipment. Your office support team should provide you with the right equipment to carry out your duties safely from the comfort of your own home. If you usually have a desktop computer, you need to ensure that you replicate the equipment at home. If you only have a laptop, make sure that it’s equipped with a VPN to keep the network safe.
  5. File access. If you’re working remotely, you need to make sure that you have access to your workplace files. You cannot be successful without that, and you can ensure that your employer helps you out with that one!

  1. Smooth internet. You want to know that you have the connection you need to really get work finished. There’s nothing worse than feeling as if you have things to do but you can’t get beyond the buffering of all your website pages. Without the right internet access, you won’t be able to keep up with your workload.
  2. The appropriate phone service. The last thing that you need is business telephone calls clogging up your personal home phone line. With the help of the best VoIP services, you can ensure that you are able to dial out and make calls that are not only encrypted, but cheap. Ideally, your employer should set you up with the same VoIP that they use in the office, but do some research in case you can find it cheaper.
  3. Keep up with your coworkers. It’s an isolating experience, working from home. However, you can keep up with your social life at work by ensuring that you connect with your colleagues on video chats. Zoom and other online platforms for video call keeps you in the loop for banter, and it ensures that you and your colleagues remain as connected as possible despite the distance. Remote working doesn’t have to be isolating, and you can avoid any issues with it when you make a point of connecting.
  4. Keep to a good routine. You might not be getting up and commuting to the office, but that doesn’t mean that you can’t stick to a routine. Keep your routine going with working times, meal times, stretching from your seat and even going for a walk. If you know you need to up your water intake, you need to set a timer and remind yourself to go and get a drink regularly. Routines are so important when working from home so that you can separate yourself from your home life. Separation of work and home is vital to success!
  5. Be strict with yourself. It’s not always easy to remain disciplined when it comes to working from home. Not when the TV, the refrigerator and all of your things are around. Discipline is a must if you want to work from home without going off the boil and meeting your deadlines. You need a healthy work life balance, so if you’re giving yourself eight hours in which to do your tasks, stop at eight hours so that you keep your home life balanced, too.

Working from home might be your new normal for a while, and if that’s the case, you want as much success as possible to make your life easy and your working life simple. These tips will help you to get through your new routine with ease.

  1. Thank you for sharing these tips! I wish I had read this earlier. I have experience working from home, but I still prefer leaving my house for work. My office is not available these days, so I visit coffee shops or coworking spaces to do some work. Coworking spaces are probably my favorite option because I love the working atmosphere there, and there is nothing to distract me.
