Xplora XGO2 children’s smartwatch is an affordable yet feature rich smart watch with mobile phone and GPS tracking capabilities and is also completely GDPR compliant. I am absolutely fascinated by gadgets. I love how these little things can make our life so much easier and more interesting.
The XGO2 Android smartwatch from Xplora, the popular Norwegian smartwatch company, is now available in the UK. This particular one caught my attention as its not only cool but can also give us parents some peace of mind, so I was really intrigued to try out this multifunctional little smartwatch.
As parents we are always aware of the potential dangers our kids are exposed and we try our best to be ahead of them and keep them protected. Tools like the Xplora2go smart watch which are easy and fun to use are a great way to help keep our kids protected in a natural and fun way. As our kids grow up, it’s important to start increasing their freedom and independence in small steps for example walking to school or starting to play out at the park by themselves – when they reach the age that feels right for your family. The ability to track GPS via this smart watch gives you some peace of mind when branching out into these steps for the first time, and that level of new independence feels great for the children, especially with the ability to contact home and check in whenever they need to. For more peace of mind, the emergency SOS button on the watch can be pressed by the child if needed and will notify their emergency contacts of their location – this is a great feature!
Xplora XGO2 allows children to communicate safely with selected family and friends via voice calls, text, images and emojis whilst giving parents the peace of mind of knowing where their children are.
Just as importantly, with the unique Goplay platform, it encourages children to keep active with rewards for every 1000 steps taken with larger prizes to be won by topping the activity leader board! This is great for kids with a competitive streak, to keep them moving and challenging themselves. We all know how important it is for children to keep active and moving for the sake of their health, and in today’s world of screens and consoles this can be a challenge at times so tools like this to encourage movement in a fun way can only be a benefit.
With in-built G Sensors, the XGO2 accurately tracks kid’s steps which earn them Xplora Coins to be used in the ground breaking and award winning Xplora Goplay Platform. This aims to motivate children to spend more time taking part in physical activities offline in exchange for virtual rewards that can later be redeemed online via a gaming platform.
Children earn one coin for every 1000 steps they make and these coins can then be used to claim products, merchandise from these shows and movies and even online game time such as the Tom & Jerry Pinball game. If they achieve a top 3 placement on the leader board, kids can also receive exclusive prize bundles which could include Bluetooth speakers, Amazon Fire kids tablets, instant cameras and RYZE Tello drones! All collaborations are specifically designed to keep kids motivated, engaged, and moving. Children who wear Xplora smartwatches and engage with the Goplay platform typically take up to 300% more steps a day than regular users!
The Xplora X2GO interface is very easy to use, and user friendly. The controls are pretty intuitive so our kids were able to jump in to it and navigate their way around the controls straight away, without any trouble. When wearing and using the device, children have the ability to make and receive voice calls from pre-saved numbers only, so they can communicate with friends or family without the risk of receiving any unsolicited calls. These contacts can be managed on the parent’s app which is free to download and helps adults to ensure children are only talking to trusted contacts. This is all very reassuring as a parent, and is a great compromise for the age where you would like your child to be contactable and be able to communicate, but in a controlled and safe way without access to the wider world of strangers and the entire internet.
The watch does not feature social media, making the safety of children using it a priority, and making it suitable for even younger children from age 5 upwards to use without any concerns.
There is also a School Mode which can be activated so that there are no distractions in class with just the watch clock displaying but all calls and messages disabled. Whilst School Mode is on however, parents are still able to track the watch location and the SOS function is still active. This is exactly what we need, and is a great way to get around the concerns of whether your child should take a phone to school.
The device can also receive and reply to text messages including text, emojis, images and voice messages. It has a 0.3 megapixel camera and 4GB storage, giving plenty of room to store photos. The Xplora XGO2 uses a 700mAh battery providing 72 hours of standby battery and working with Wi-Fi as well as 4G, 3G and 2G connectivity, the watch ensures reliable connectivity and is also IP67 water resistant so can survive a rainy day or messy play session outdoors! Other useful features included are a torch, schedules, alarm and a stopwatch.
The watch runs on Android 4.4 with a 1.4” capacitive touch colour LCD screen and a resolution of 240 x 240, it is easy to use and is incredibly responsive with its 1.2 GHz Quad Core ARM Cortex A7 frequency, 512MB RAM and Spreadtrum SC9820E chipset.
Let’s also talk about how stylish it is. This watch is very sturdy if your little one – like mine – is a bit rough. My daughter loves it because it looks like a secret agent watch! The lines are very modern and its not bulky at all. At first glance it looks like a conventional watch. You can barely tell it has so many amazing features. The packaging also was really good.
All around this is a great little gadget that looks super cool and is also very easy to set up. The instructions are very clear and within a few minutes it is all ready to go.
