We recently got the chance to try out the Odyssey Spy Kit from Tinkerer, and it was a big hit with our 8-year-old girls! This STEAM-themed box is part of Tinkerer’s Odyssey range, designed for ages 6 to 8, and it really delivered on its promise of combining fun with learning.
The spy theme immediately grabbed their attention, and was present throughout all of the activities in our tinkerer box.

The kit came packed with creative and engaging projects that sparked lots of excitement and imagination.

We got to wear our own spy glasses and moustache disguises, built a compass, and even put together a dart shooter. There’s also a cryptography activity, and a magazine with things to read and activities to complete. Each activity felt like part of a bigger mission, which made the experience feel extra fun and immersive.

One thing I really appreciated was how hands-on everything was. The instructions were child-friendly, which allowed the girls to take the lead with just a little guidance. They learned a bit of science and engineering along the way without even realising it – it was all just part of the fun.

The compass activity was a favourite, combining magnetism with basic navigation skills.

The dart shooter offered a little engineering challenge, and they loved testing it out afterward.

The disguise kit was perfect for pretend play, encouraging storytelling and imaginative thinking, which is something we’re always big on at home.

Each Tinkerer box is thoughtfully designed to combine learning and play. Inside every kit, you’ll find hands-on Science Projects that explore a new topic each time, with 1–2 educational toys that help bring those scientific ideas to life in a fun and accessible way.

There’s also a strong focus on Play, encouraging kids to express their creativity by designing their own artwork or themed creations. And with every activity, there’s a chance to Learn through building and experimenting, helping children develop logical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a sense of accomplishment as they complete each challenge.

Overall, I was really impressed with the quality and creativity of the Tinkerer box. It’s clear that a lot of thought has gone into making each project educational while still feeling playful and age-appropriate. The spy theme made it all the more exciting and kept the kids engaged from start to finish.
If you’re looking for screen-free fun that also helps build problem-solving skills and creativity, this is a great option.
Tinkerer offers different lines for various age groups too, from 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12 so you can keep the learning going as your kids grow.
