How to Make a Rocking Fox
Follow along with the step by step instructions below.
Fox Rocking Paper Plate Craft
Turn a simple paper plate into an adorable rocking fox with this easy woodland animal craft for kids! Perfect for fall crafting, forest themes, and imaginative play.
Materials
- Paper plate
- Orange construction paper
- White construction paper
- Black construction paper
- Googly eyes
- Scissors
- Glue
- Orange paint
- Paintbrush
- Rocking fox template
Tools
- Printer for template
Instructions
- Paint one half of the paper plate orange. Try to cover the entire half, including the ridged edge of the plate.
- Set the plate aside and allow the paint to dry completely before continuing. If the orange paint looks slightly transparent after the first coat, you can add a second coat for a brighter finish.
- Fold the paper plate in half so that the orange painted section is at the front. The curved folded edge will form the bottom of the fox and allow it to rock gently from side to side.
Press along the fold so that it holds its shape, but do not flatten the plate completely.
- Print and cut out the fox templates. Trace each piece onto the corresponding color of construction paper.
Use orange paper for the pointed ears, white paper for the fox’s face and inner ears, and black paper for the nose and mouth details. - Cut out all the traced pieces. An adult may need to help younger children with this part.
- Begin assembling the paper pieces. Glue the smaller white inner-ear shapes onto the larger orange ear shapes.
Position the ears behind the top edge of the folded paper plate, with one ear on each side. Glue them securely in place.
- Attach the large white face piece to the front of the orange paper plate. Position it so that the pointed orange section in the middle resembles the fox’s forehead.
Smooth the paper down gently and allow the glue to begin drying before adding the smaller facial features. - Glue the black nose near the center of the fox’s face. Attach the mouth piece directly underneath it.
If you prefer, children can draw the mouth onto the white paper using a black marker instead.
- Finish the fox by gluing two large googly eyes onto its face. Leave the glue to dry completely before playing with the finished craft.
- Once everything is secure, place the fox on a flat surface and gently tap one side to make it rock.
