There are so many sensory bin ideas that you can make to compliment the seasons of the year. We made this simple Spring sensory bin with a few left over Easter craft supplies and used it for story telling, simple role play and to practise counting. Since it’s so yellow, you can also use it to focus on the colour yellow.
To make this Spring time sensory bin we used:
- Wicker basket
- Cardboard Straw (re-used from parcel packaging) – You can substitute artificial grass, real straw, or shredded tissue
- Small chicks (The type you buy for Easter crafts. Ours are from the Works, see more of their range here in our Easter Bonnet Ideas post)
- Artificial flowers (also from the Works)
- Easter egg bunnies. (As above, these are from the Works too – but you can make your own similar ones from Polystyrene eggs. See instructions on our Easter egg bunnies post)
You can put in whatever Spring themed bits you have available. After we finished playing, I found a lot more chicks, eggs and nests that I had been meaning to use for this – so we will have to add them next time!
This Spring time sensory bin is really simple and can be set up in 5 minutes or less.
This type of sensory bin is best for toddlers and preschoolers around 2-5. R & T had fun playing with the chicks, feeling the different materials, and practising their counting.
T soon realised it’s much easier to count all of the chicks when you line them all up.
The little chicks are good for simple addition and subtraction games while you’re playing, if your child is interested in that. Or hide them under the hay and have the chicken dig them out.
Thanks! for this great post. Hopeing more valueable post of this type.
