Kids are always looking for something creative to do on Halloween. Set up this super easy craft to enjoy together! This simple pumpkin craft is an ideal Autumn art project for toddlers or preschoolers, it’s lots of fun and the added bonus is that it helps build fine motor skills as little ones use pincer grip to pick up each of the pumpkin seeds.
We have provided some free printable pumpkin templates that you can use, so download those at the end of this blog post. There are four different versions available.

Easy Pumpkin Craft Supplies
To make this super simple pumpkin craft all you will need is a bowl of white pumpkin seeds and some basic craft supplies that you likely already have around the house.
Using pumpkin seeds is a great way to add a new texture and sensory experience to this art project for the kids, and of course it’s perfectly on theme for a Halloween craft project, or Fall craft project.

You will need:
- White pumpkin seeds
- Printed template or draw your own pumpkin outline on a large sheet of paper
- Colored Paint (recommended to have orange and green available, among others)
- Paintbrush
- Glue
You can use a glue stick like pritt stick for this craft activity, or use school glue / PVA glue and a glue spreader. Both ways will work.
For the paint, washable kids paint will work well for this project and minimise staining on clothes or surfaces.
Directions for this Preschool Pumpkin Craft
Print out your chosen pumpkin template for the outline of your picture, or draw a basic pumpkin by hand.

Place the pumpkin seeds down on the page within the lines to fill all the areas of the pumpkin and then glue down.
This action is great for building up fine motor skills, and working those little hand muscles. The seeds are a great size for toddlers and preschoolers to work with (supervised) as they are small but not too small to become unmanageable.

Once all of the pumpkin seeds have been glued down firmly into place, and the glue has dried, you’re ready to paint.
Set out a choice of autumnal colors such as orange, green, brown, red and yellow and let the children get to work colouring in their pumpkin picture with the paints.

These small pots of finger paints are great for minimising mess. We also have some in glitter colors, which my daughter loves.
You can mix things up and make sparkly pumpkins too!

Once the pumpkin is painted, leave to dry and you are all done.

If the kids want to paint more, print out one of the other templates and keep going!
