Osmo Math Wizard and the Magical Workshop is one of the many fun hands on learning games from Osmo, and is part of the Osmo Maths Wizard app just like Osmo Maths Wizard and the Secrets of the Dragons, which N loves to play with. So we were excited to get started and give it a go.

Osmo Math Wizard and the Magical Workshop is a fun hands on and story based way for kids to practice their addition and subtraction skills, via making potions and counting out the ingredients.
When you first open the app, you as a parent are prompted to choose the correct difficulty level for your child to make sure that they get the most benefit out of the game.
If your child is new to the game, you can choose apprentice to start off with basic addition and subtraction within the numbers 1-20 and then increase to the next level once your child is confident.

When you first start the game, you’ll need to use your magical postcard included in the box to add the appropriate room to your Osmo world.

The game then comes with lots of hands on counting resources, and a base board to use while your child works all stored in a beautiful story book style box

The kids are prompted to change the ingredients symbols on the board according to the different potions you’re going to make and then count out the ingredients and add them together.

N picked this up very quickly and was able to work on this independently, which is great to give kids a sense of achievement and the fact that the game is so hands on makes it great for effective learning that really makes sense, as the concepts are not left abstract.

Osmo Math Wizard and the Magical Workshop is recommended for ages 6-8 which is grades 1 and 2 in the US school system, or year 1 and 2 in the UK. It will also be suitable for reception years, depending on your child. N is age 5 and in year 1 at school.
