If your kids love lift the flap books, they are going to be obsessed with this mosque craft. It uses the exact same idea, except they get to build the whole scene themselves, then open the doors to reveal a surprise inside.

It feels like a little interactive toy when it is finished, and it is such a sweet hands on way to talk about a mosque, prayer, and Ramadan in a way that little ones actually connect with.

This printable set includes 2 pages of mosque craft template pieces, so it is easy to prep for home, school, or a group. It also works really well as a how to build a mosque for school project style activity because you can keep it simple, or level it up into a sturdier cardboard mosque model.

Materials for your Mosque Craft Lift the Flap Activity

For this mosque craft for kids, you just need the printable template pages, white paper or white cardstock for the base, colored paper (we used blue and yellow), scissors, and a glue stick.

A black marker is helpful for tracing the outlines to give that bold mosque art and craft look, and you can add extras like stickers, a small paper cutout person, or even a written message to go behind the doors.

Lift the flap mosque craft

A fun lift the flap mosque craft that kids will love making and playing with. Using a simple printable template, children build their own colorful mosque with opening doors that hide a surprise inside. It is interactive, creative, and perfect for Ramadan, school projects, or a hands on way to explore mosque craft ideas at home.

Materials

  • • Mosque craft template (2 printable pages)
  • • White paper or white cardstock for the base
  • • Colored paper (we used blue and yellow, but any colors work)
  • • Scissors
  • • Glue stick
  • • Black marker for outlining
  • • Optional extras for inside the doors (stickers, drawings, written messages, or a small paper figure)

Tools

  • Printer for template

Instructions

  1. Print the 2 page mosque craft template and gather your supplies. You will want your colored paper ready too (blue and yellow look so striking, but any colors work).
  2. Cut out the main base pieces from white cardstock or sturdy paper. In the photos, that is the long rectangle for the building and the two tall tower pieces.
  3. Use a black marker to outline the base and the two towers, then add the tall interior lines on the towers so they look like minarets.
  4. Glue the two tower pieces onto the top left and top right of the building base, leaving the center open for the dome.
  5. Cut the dome and top shapes from colored paper. You will have one large center dome, two smaller domes for the towers, and a crescent moon.
  6. Outline the dome pieces with a black marker if you want that crisp finished look, then cut the blue bands that will sit under each dome.
  7. Glue the domes in place: the two smaller domes on the towers and the large dome in the center. Add the blue bands under each one, and glue the crescent above the center dome.
  8. Cut the door and window pieces from blue paper. The doors are split down the middle, and the smaller side windows are also split so they can open like flaps.
  9. Glue only the outer edges of each door or window flap so the center can lift and open. The easiest way is to add glue along the outside edge of each flap and leave the inner edge free so it swings open.
  10. Add your surprise inside. We put a person praying behind the center doors, but you can put anything you like inside the doors, stickers, a written message, a drawing, a good deed idea for Ramadan, or even a child’s name if you are doing this as a classroom display.

What to Put Inside the Doors

One of the best parts of this lift the flap mosque craft is deciding what goes behind the doors. You can keep it simple or make it more meaningful depending on the age of your kids. We added a person praying, but you could just as easily draw your own scene, add stickers, or write a short message or dua inside. It is also a lovely spot to include something personal, like a child’s name, a good deed for Ramadan, or a picture they have drawn themselves.

If you want a little extra guidance, we also have step by step directed drawing ideas with Islamic themes that work perfectly for this. You can use any of those drawings behind the doors to turn this into a mini art project within the craft, and kids love opening the flaps to show off what they created inside.

Or write a Ramadan Mubarak message, or practice writing your Arabic alphabet letters inside.

You could also make a set of this muslim family popsicle stick puppets to play with along side your diy mosque craft.
