There have been a lot of articles to come out recently that talk about how individuals of a certain age do not seem to hang out anymore. Part of that may be due to the pandemic. It disrupted the routines of many groups of friends. Even once restrictions were lifted, some of these people don’t seem willing to go back to spending as much time together as they used to.
That is as true in Colorado as in many other parts of the country. It’s a shame, since the state boasts so much to do for groups willing to spend time with each other.
If you plan to move to this part of the country soon, then you might be interested in some of the homes for sale in Mead, CO. It’s a beautiful area with a lot going for it.
If you do decide to move there, though, you may not instantly have a friend network to plug into. Even if you do know some people prior to moving, maybe you fall into this group of individuals who seem reluctant to hang out together as much anymore.
Humans are social animals, and it’s unfortunate if you feel like you don’t have an easy way to reach out to others when you’re in the mood to talk and banter with like-minded individuals. Let’s discuss four ways you can potentially meet others who like some of the same things that you do in your local Colorado community.
Religious Organizations
You might consider looking into whatever religious organizations are close to you. If you have a particular religion that you follow, you can see what the local scene looks like.
Not everyone is religious, and of the ones that are, not every person is the same level of devout. You may have someone who feels that a deity exists, but maybe that is not even the primary reason they choose to attend services.
When they do, they may feel that they belong to something larger than themselves. That can be just as much of an incentive as the spiritual need that drives some people to a mosque, church, synagogue, or somewhere similar.
When you worship, you can do it together, and it’s probable the leadership of that religious organization will reach out to you as well. They might introduce you to others your own age. This can be a great way to get to a point where you belong, even if you feel like you’re all alone in a new place.
Theme Nights at Bars
You might look into what theme nights they have at your local watering hole. If you like to drink socially from time to time, then maybe you can walk over to the nearest tavern that does trivia night or karaoke.
Whatever the theme night that attracts you, alcohol can be the universal social lubricant that allows you to open up and talk to some new people. Even if you don’t like to drink, though, there is no reason why you can’t still use this as an excuse to meet some fun people who live in your area.
You can nurse a beer or get a Coke or a water instead. You can show your team how good you are at singing classic rock favorites. You might impress them with your knowledge of sports or music trivia instead.
Relationships that start in such situations can easily lead to your insertion into a friend group that meets in other places besides bars. You may even find someone who you are interested in romantically if you’re single and looking.
Charitable or Outreach Functions
If spending time in bars or at religious functions isn’t so much your thing, then you might also do some volunteer work. Volunteer work is nice because you’re helping those who are less fortunate. You will feel good about yourself when you do it, but at the same time, you can meet people who are likewise kind and civic minded.
You will often find that these kinds of charitable events have a connection to a local religious organization. However, not all of them do. Even if you get involved with one that springs from a church, that does not necessarily mean you have to go into it through any religious motivation.
You can do it simply for the joy of helping people. You can also sometimes find secular events where you assist people that have nothing to do with any particular religious entity. Such places are great for meeting caring people who like to give back.
Amateur or League Sporting Events
You can look around online to see what local sporting events happen in your area. Maybe you can involve yourself with a bowling league. Perhaps you feel pickleball or softball is more your speed. You can often find flag football games or the equivalent.
If you live in a part of Colorado with lots of outdoor activities, as is the case in so much of the state, then you should have plenty of leagues to pick from. You can get involved with a very serious one for real athletes or a much more frivolous one that’s more about getting together and having fun with very little emphasis on who wins and loses.
You can think about doing not just one of these four things, but several of them. If you are determined to meet some new people, this is a viable way you can do it.
There are also opportunities like speed dating. You might do something like that if you’re daring and don’t mind spending some time with people who you know virtually nothing about.
While it’s possible that you won’t feel any romantic sparks with anyone, you may also encounter some people who are fun to talk to and that you see more as potential friend material. It can often be that easy to meet new people if you just put yourself out there and let the extraverted side of your personality shine through.
