Looking to buy a new vehicle to chauffeur your family in? Not sure what to buy? Well, before thinking about the finish of the interior and the aesthetic of the car, you must first consider what safety features it should come with.

Fortunately, there are plenty of modern vehicles now equipped with state-of-the-art safety features and a variety of financing options to suit all budgets. Read on to find out the four most important safety features for any family car.

Blind-spot monitoring

If you’ve ever gone to change lanes and noticed a vehicle suddenly appear from nowhere, you’re not alone. This area where you often struggle to see is called your blind spot and has been a safety issue for years. However, with blind-spot monitoring, you are notified if there is a vehicle approaching any of your blind spots.

With just a flicker of the orange lights on your wing mirrors, you’ll know once it’s safe to move. Additionally, some cars like the Hyundai Tucson come with collision-avoidance assist, where the car will automatically manoeuvre the vehicle to prevent an accident.

Rear-view camera

One particular aspect of driving that motorists struggle with is reversing. With an impeded view and numerous distractions, there’s a higher risk of a collision, especially on busy roads. That’s where a rear-view camera is handy.

While the camera shouldn’t replace your mirrors, it can be highly beneficial to see what’s going on behind you. You’ll also usually hear a beeping noise if you get too close to an object surrounding your vehicle. If you want to go one step further, consider opting for a vehicle that parks for you.

Intelligent seat belt reminder

Looking after a family is hard work. Rewarding, but hard work. It’s therefore quite easy when sleep-deprived to forget to check that everyone has fastened their seat belts before setting off.

These reminders are a godsend, alerting you both audibly and visually should someone either forget their seat belt or remove it before the vehicle comes to a stop.

Adaptive cruise control

While not a necessity, adaptive cruise control can make life much easier when picking the kids up – particularly in the midst of slow-moving stop-start traffic.

By adapting your speed to keep a safe distance from the car in front, you can rest assured there’ll be no accidents when trying to break up any back-seat arguments.

While these features are all highly useful to have in a vehicle, there are plenty of others that you could also benefit from. If you’re unsure, do some research by checking online reviews, asking questions at dealerships, or talking to family and friends. It’s always worth test-driving the vehicle to confirm the features are right for your family.
