Yesterday was our first ever trip to London Zoo. Despite living in London we had never made it there before! We were at the zoo for a blogging event to promote the new Pokemon XY games on Nintendo DS (there will be a full post on that soon, Mr Z loved the game) and we were given the chance to go into the zoo while we were there
As we went later in the day we didn’t get to spend a full day there but there would have been enough to fill the day if we had been. Although it is winter season, we were still able to see a lot of animals and winter means that tickets are marginally cheaper than the rest of the year, if you were paying to go in.
First we went to the Penguin Beach and the boys really liked being able to see under the water as well as seeing the penguins.
Another favourite was the tigers. There are two 5 year old tigers living at the zoo, a male and a female. We had a great view of the female tiger sitting on the ledge whereas the male was roaming around and a little harder to spot.
The boys also enjoyed the various big cats around the zoo which you can climb on
Mr T and Mr R (age 3 and 2) always love aquariums, so we had to make sure we visited the aquarium at London Zoo. It is obviously smaller than the main London Aquarium but it has a good selection of fish, from river fish to coral reefs with plenty of colours and different sized fish to keep the little ones entertained and give them plenty to talk about.
I love all the different colourful fish myself, they are very fascinating to observe – and relaxing!
There are various interactive things around the zoo, like boards to twist and turn and hear animal sounds, or signs asking can you run and jump like certain animals, along with the usual signs giving more information to learn about the different creatures. They also do talks about the animals and have feeding times which you can go and watch.
Now that Christmas is coming, they do have themed events at the zoo like a Santa’s grotto and you can book to meet and feed the reindeer. We didn’t take part in that so can’t personally recommend it but it may be worth looking into if you want to do something a bit different in the lead up to Christmas.
This is just a taste of what’s available in the zoo as I mentioned we weren’t there for the full day, but it was a good day out and we felt it would definitely be worth going back. You can get annual membership which covers both ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade which might work out better if you want to visit both?

We had free entry to the zoo as a part of the Pokemon XY event but were not required to write about the zoo. Thanks to my husband for the majority of the animal pictures, as his came out much better than mine!

What a fun packed day out with great photos of the animals and the beautiful colourful fish. I love the sign by the tigers enclosure and I’m sure it was less crowded than in the summer as well. Thanks for linking up and sharing your fun with Country Kids.

Shame we didn’t see you. That’s a stunning pic of the tiger, we seem to miss them every time we go, although we did see it’s rear end disappearing out of sight!

So funny, you have so many more photos than me, even though we were there double the time, because my camera battery died. The zoo is spectacular, as are your photos. We went to the Santa’s Grotto and it was truly awful so sadly that dominates my post. Lovely to see you, Liska xx
