There is something so cosy about a mitten craft in winter. Mittens are one of our absolute favorite themes for kids crafts, and this one is extra sweet because it is made using simple popsicle sticks and turns into a little ornament with a cute yarn loop. You can hang it on the Christmas tree in December, but it also works beautifully as a winter mitten craft long after the holidays are over.
It is an easy art project for preschoolers, kindergartners, toddlers, and big kids too, and you do not need any printable mitten template because you can copy the shape right from our photo.

If you do not know how to crochet mittens or knit your own, do not worry at all, just make this instead. It is such a fun hands on project and kids love painting and decorating their own little winter mitten.

How to Make This Winter Mitten Craft
Before you start, you do not need any mitten craft template for this one. The shape is created from popsicle sticks, so you can follow our image as your guide.
Start by preparing four popsicle sticks and trimming the rounded edges off each one. Cut another popsicle stick in half to create the thumb shape. Paint all the sticks red and allow them to dry completely before moving to the next step.
Once the paint is dry, glue the four main sticks together side by side, and then attach the half stick to the right side to form the mitten thumb. After the structure is secure, outline the edges with tiny white dots using a white pencil or marker. Add a simple snowflake design in the centre.
Attach a strip of cotton along the top to create the fluffy cuff of the mitten. Finish by tying a yarn loop at the top so your mitten can hang like a Christmas ornament.
