There are so many ways to decorate a Christmas tree, including making handmade Christmas ornaments with the Kids. This blog post will show you how to make your own cinnamon stick ribbon Christmas tree ornaments to hang on the tree.

I love creating DIY ornaments! And because they are made with love, the end product always turns out better than anything I could ever purchase.

These simple DIY Cinnamon Stick Christmas tree ornaments are easy to create with supplies you are likely to already have at home, making it easy to re-use and recycle. The finished result makes a beautiful rustic tree ornament.

You can even make these festive ornaments with the kids to sell at local Christmas fayres at school or in the community.

How to Make Cinnamon Stick Christmas Trees

Let me share with you my very simple, easy and inexpensive way to make Christmas ribbon ornaments that will put some smiles on everyone’s faces.

Cinnamon Stick Christmas Tree Craft Supplies:

  • Cinnamon Sticks (You can get them on Amazon, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, etc or in the Grocery store)
  • Farmhouse Style or holiday Ribbon (You can get them on Amazon, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, etc.) If you have scrap ribbon at home already, even better. You can also substitute fabric scraps, cut into thin pieces.
  • Wooden Stars (You can get them on Amazon, Walmart, Hobby Lobby, etc.)
  • Acrylic paint
  • Foam brushes
  • Craft glue or a hot glue gun
  • Ruler
  • Scissors or rotary cutter
  • Ribbon or twine for hanging

Festive Ribbon

Here are a few cute festive ribbon designs we found, whether you want to go for a farmhouse look, rustic, checked ribbon, tartan or a more modern childish design.

Step by Step Instructions:

Step 1:  Paint your wooden star. Allow to dry completely and then paint one more coat.

Step 2: While your stars are drying, cut your ribbons into 9” long pieces.

I used 10 ribbons per ornament, but this depends on the length of your cinnamon sticks.

Step 3:  Tie each ribbon in a double knot around the cinnamon stick.

Once all the ribbons are tied, use a ruler and scissors or rotary cutter to cut the ribbons on a diagonal, cutting them into a tree shape.

Step 4: Using craft glue or a hot glue gun, attach your wooden star to the top front of your ornament.

Step 5:  Cut a length of ribbon or piece of twine to your desired length to serve as your hanger and attach to the back top of the ornament.

Allow to dry before hanging on your tree.

Aren’t they so cute?! These cinnamon stick Christmas tree ornaments will look and smell so festive hanging from your tree.

These cinnamon stick ornaments are definitely my new favorite Christmas ornament!

You can change up the look by using different colors and patterns on the ribbon, to coordinate with the color scheme of your Christmas tree and add your own personality.

Use a variety of styles, patterns, colors, fabrics, textures and so on for your diy ribbon christmas ornaments.

Helping put together these simple DIY Christmas ornaments is a great fine motor work out for kids, building up fine motor skills and hand strength is so important for little ones, and these ribbon ways is a fun way to get in some practice.

They may need help with some of the tying, and always be careful using a hot glue gun with children.
