Planning a wedding takes a lot of research, constant management, and most importantly, problem-solving skills. Earlier, the rule of thumb was that you should start planning a year in advance which seems like a lot, but it really isn’t! You have to take into account your other responsibilities whether it’s at work or home as well as factor in all the issues that can crop up at the last minute.

Most brides land up stressed and frustrated in the months leading up to the wedding. Unfortunately, in the chaos, they put their own needs on the back burner which takes a toll on their emotional, mental, and physical health. Including self-care as part of your daily routine will keep you feeling and looking great on your big day.

6 Self-Care Tips for Brides

1. Manage Stress

You probably think that because you have a lot of time to prepare for your wedding, you won’t be stressed but this could not be further from the truth. While venting to family and friends will help, you should also consider talking to a therapist.

Therapy is a very effective way to help you cope with wedding stress as your therapist is a trained professional who will be able to help you navigate negative emotions and emotional spiralling. Online therapy is a good option for you since it won’t strain your budget and you can schedule your sessions according to your convenience.

A comparison of the most affordable online therapy options will provide you with the pros and cons of each one so that you can decide on one that suits you.

2. Prioritize Sleep

Life moves at such a fast pace these days and our schedules are so packed that we often sacrifice our sleep to stay on top of everything. As a bride, you will feel the added pressure to manage everything and you’re more likely to skip an hour or two just to complete everything you need to do.

However, if you sleep more, you will be able to get more done! This seems counterintuitive but research on sleep shows that less sleep reduces your attention span and your ability to process information. Poor sleep can also hinder something called cognitive flexibility which is your ability to navigate changing circumstances.

It can also impact your judgement and your ability to manage your emotions which in turn will result in you getting more anxious, depressed, and stressed. Follow a regular sleep schedule to ensure that you are well rested and you will soon find that your productivity drastically increases.

3. Create Checklists

Things like setting your budget, booking your venue and photographer, and creating your guestlist need to be your top priorities and should be handled as early as possible. After that, you will need to see to the next tier of tasks which would be things like catering, music, wedding party, and obviously your dress!  Creating a wedding checklist that is organized according to your timeline will help to streamline the process. This will help you realize that you are managing to get things done and it will keep you from feeling stressed and anxious.

4. Transition to a Healthy Diet

With all the additional responsibilities of planning a wedding, you will be stressed and more likely to go off your diet and binge on junk food. Some brides think that they will be able to overhaul their entire diet six months before their big day but this is unrealistic. Instead, you should slowly start transitioning to a healthy diet as soon as possible.

The gradual transition away from fast foods to healthy food will give you the time to adjust to these changes which makes it easier for you to keep eating healthy. You can start with just one change such as switching from sodas to water – this will not only improve your health but also work wonders for your skin since your sugar intake will be drastically reduced.

5. Exercise Daily

You probably think that you don’t have the time for daily exercise but even a short brisk walk every morning will help. Daily exercise will help you get fit and improve your energy levels so that you are able to get the most out of your day. Exercise also reduces stress and releases endorphins aka “happy hormones” that keep you feeling happy and optimistic. Furthermore, exercise can also help reduce cellulite and improve skin firmness.

6.  Stick to a Regular Skincare Routine

Many brides opt for new beauty treatments just before the wedding because they feel that it will help them look their best. This is not a good idea because if you have an adverse reaction, it will do more harm than good. Stick to a regular skincare routine because you know that this is what works well for you. If you want to use a retinoid, add it to your regular skincare routine at least six months in advance. In addition to this, if you are set on using an injectable, make sure that you do it at least a year in advance so that you know if it agrees with you and if you are happy with the results.
