Materials You’ll Need to Make Your Witch Craft for Kids

You don’t need anything fancy to get started. A few sheets of colored paper – we used green for the face, purple for the hat, orange for the hair, plus black and white for details – are the main ingredients.

If you prefer, you can pick different color options.

You’ll also need scissors, glue, a marker, for drawing the face, and a piece of lightweight cardboard.

We like to recycle an old cereal box, but a paper plate could also work as the rocking base. All these simple bits and pieces come together to make an adorable kids witch face that’s easy for little ones to help with.

How to make a rocking witch craft for kids

A cute and easy rocking witch craft for kids made with paper, glue, and a folded cardboard base, perfect for Halloween fun at home or in the classroom!

Materials

  • Green, orange, purple, black and white cardstock or construction paper
  • A sheet of lightweight cardboard (cereal box or similar)
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors
  • Black marker or pen

Instructions

  1. Prepare the base. Cut a large circle out of lightweight cardboard and fold it in half. This folded circle will act as the rocking base for your witch.
  2. Cut the face. From green paper, cut a circle in a size similar to the cardboard base. This will be the witch’s face.
  3. Make the hat. Use purple paper to cut out a tall triangle with a slightly curved top and a wide brim so it looks like a witch’s hat.
  4. Attach the hat. Glue the purple hat onto the top edge of the green face circle so that it overlaps a little, giving the appearance of the hat sitting on the witch’s forehead.
  5. Cut the hair. From orange paper, cut two puffy cloud-shaped pieces. These will be the witch’s side curls.
  6. Glue on the hair. Attach one orange piece behind each side of the green face so they stick out on both sides.
  7. Make the eyes and brows. Cut two white circles for eyes. From black paper, cut two thick rectangular strips for eyebrows.
  8. Attach the eyes and brows. Glue the white eyes in place just below the hat brim and glue the black eyebrows above the eyes.
  9. Add facial details. Use a black marker to draw pupils inside the white eyes and add a little mouth. Kids can get creative with the expression! We also added a white paper snaggle tooth for our witch.
  10. Assemble the rocking witch. Glue the completed witch face to the front of the folded cardboard base. Make sure it’s centered so the witch rocks evenly.
  11. Finishing touches. Allow the glue to dry, then gently press one side of the cardboard base down to watch the witch rock from side to side.

Crafting is always a win at this time of year, it keeps children engaged, lets them explore colour and texture, and is such a great way to sneak in fine-motor practice as they cut and glue. Plus, having a handmade decoration adds that personal touch to your Halloween witch crafts display. We love how this project works for a wide age range – even little ones in preschool as well as elementary grades can join in.

It’s also a great alternative to a handprint witch craft or witch paper plate craft if you want something different but still very achievable.

Once your halloween witch paper craft is dry, set it rocking and enjoy your cheerful little witch.

Projects like this remind us that kids crafts don’t have to be complicated to be magical – just a bit of paper, some glue, and imagination.
