Every year The Reading Agency sets a Summer reading challenge for children with a list of recommend books. This is a great idea to get children excited about reading, and since we have World Book Day this week I thought it’s the perfect time to share these lists with you.

I know my children enjoy ticking things off a list, so preparing a book list for them to tick off throughout Summer would definitely motivate them. Or you can simply use these lists for some inspiration of new books to buy, or check out of the library.

The theme for this years summer reading challenge is Record Breakers, which is linked to the Guinness World Records. You can find out more about that here.

The summer reading challenge lists are split up, between the younger age group of 4-7 and the older group of 8-11. So here we go, with the younger children’s list:

Many of these books are new to us, although some of them are already favourites like The Paper Dolls. I love the variety that has made the list within this “record breakers” theme, and we will enjoy exploring them. I hope you do too.

Schools and libraries in the UK, can order the full set of books for this reading challenge from the Reading Agency website
