We’re setting out on an awesome crafting journey to recreate a mini version of Hajj, the sacred pilgrimage that millions of Muslims take part in every year.
Don’t worry, there’s no passport needed for this adventure, and it’s right in your living room. All you need is a paper plate and a few craft supplies to bring this special journey to life.
Our fun DIY project will take us step-by-step to create a moving model of tawaaf, one of the most famous rituals of Hajj. Plus, while they’re having fun crafting, they’ll be learning about an important event for millions of people around the world.

This project is super easy, interactive, and definitely a fun way to spend an afternoon. So, let’s roll up our sleeves, break out the glue sticks, and get ready to create a fantastic hands-on experience of Hajj! Trust us, your little crafters are going to love this. Ready? Let’s get started!

Circling Around the Kaaba: Understanding Tawaf and Hajj for Little Explorers
With this craft we’ve been exploring a significant tradition in Islam known as Hajj and one of its central practices called Tawaf. Let’s unravel what these mean!
Hajj is a crucial journey that Muslims from all over the world embark on every year. This isn’t a vacation or a holiday trip; it’s a meaningful pilgrimage to a city called Mecca in Saudi Arabia. This journey is deeply significant in the Islamic faith, much like certain traditions or events hold special importance in various cultures.
In the heart of Mecca, there’s an impressive, large cube-shaped building called the Kaaba. This isn’t just any building – for Muslims, the Kaaba is an important spiritual symbol. One of the rituals of Hajj involves walking around the Kaaba seven times, a practice known as Tawaf.
But why do people walk around the Kaaba? It’s a way of demonstrating profound respect and reverence towards God. It’s a symbolic act, much like the symbolic gestures we often use to show love and respect in our daily lives. In this case, Tawaf involves showing love and respect to God by walking around the Kaaba.
Tawaf is also done during Umrah pilgrimage and you can read more about the differences between Hajj and Umrah here.
