This Paper Television Craft is such a creative activity for kids because it doesn’t just look great when it’s finished, it actually moves too! So if you’re looking for a fun paper craft that feels a little bit different, you’re going to love this simple fun and creative idea.
Using our free printable template, children can create their own little TV and slide different pictures through the screen to make it look like the television is changing channels.

We’ll be sharing a printable template for this craft, but you can also let your imagination run wild and design your own scenes. Whether your child wants to feature their favourite cartoon characters, superheroes, princesses, animals, dinosaurs, or even draw their own family TV show, there are so many possibilities.
It’s a simple craft that encourages creativity, colouring, cutting and imaginative storytelling all in one activity.
Interactive Moving TV Craft
There is something magical about crafts that have an interactive element. Instead of creating a picture that stays the same, kids can slide the paper strip back and forth to reveal different scenes inside the television.

They might create their own mini cartoon, pretend they’re changing channels, or tell a story by drawing different pictures on the strip. It’s a wonderful way to encourage imaginative play long after the colouring and cutting are finished.
Our free printable template makes it easy to get started, and with several versions available you can pick the design your child will enjoy most.
Materials You’ll Need for your Moving Paper Craft TV
You only need a few simple supplies for this activity.
- Printable television template (optional you can also draw your own)
- Cardstock (this is sturdier than regular printer paper and works really well for this project)
- Colour pencils or markers
- Scissors or a craft knife
- Glue

How to Make the Paper Television Craft
Here’s how to make your moving paper television craft. It’s simple to put together, but younger children may need a little help with the cutting, especially around the TV slits where the paper strip slides through. Once it’s assembled, they can have fun moving the strip back and forth to change the scene on the screen.

Materials
- Printable television template
- Cardstock (this is sturdier than regular printer paper and works really well for this project)
- Colour pencils or markers
- Scissors
- Glue
Tools
- printer if using the template
Instructions
- Print the free television template onto paper and glue it onto a piece of cardstock to make it nice and sturdy for little hands. Then, start coloring

- Colour the television and background using colour pencils or markers. You can copy our example or come up with your own completely unique design.

- Carefully cut the two guide slits on either side of the television screen. These openings will allow the picture strip to slide through the television.

- Cut a strip of cardstock the same width as the television screen and attach the printable strip template to it.

- Color and draw pictures onto the strip, each one the same width as the tv. This is the perfect chance for kids to include their favourite TV characters, movie heroes, video game characters, or even draw themselves starring in their own show.

- Insert the picture strip into the television and slide it back and forth to reveal the different scenes. Kids will love changing the picture just like flipping through TV channels.

- As you move the strip along, the different pictures will be revealed.

Encourage Creative Storytelling
One of the best things about this craft is how easily it can be personalised. Instead of stopping after colouring, encourage children to invent their own television programmes.
Maybe today’s channel is a nature documentary with jungle animals. The next could be a superhero adventure, followed by a baking show, a football match, or a concert. They could even draw family members, pets, or friends and create their own funny television series.
The moving picture makes storytelling feel much more interactive and gives children another way to express their creativity.
You could include also favorite characters like…
- Pokemon
- Bluey
- Minecraft
- Barbie
- K-Pop Demon Hunters
- Spiderman
- Sanrio Characters like Hello Kitty and Kuromi
- Disney and Pixar Characters
and so many more.
