T made this cute paper plate handprint craft while studying mini beasts, but with it’s Spider theme I think it would work perfectly as a Halloween craft too.
This fun spider craft will give kids practise in threading while making the web, so it’s a good way to get some extra fine motor practise in with your crafting, and build up those little hand muscles.
For the paper plate handprint spider you will need:
Paper Plate (plain white if possible)
Paint (any colours for the background plus black for the spider)
Hole punch
Wool (preferably black)
Scissors to cut wool.
How to make this spider craft
First, let the kids paint the background of the plate however they would like.
Then once the background of the plate is dry, then paint their hands black
and make two prints to form the spider shape.
As you can see, the palms of both hand prints over lap, leaving the fingers out to the side as the spider’s legs.
You could add googley eyes to add detail to the spider too if you like.
Once all the paint is dry, punch holes around the edge of the plate ready to make the web.
Let the kids thread the wool in and out of the holes, (tie or tape one piece in place at the start) across the front of the plate forming a web across the spider. It doesn’t really matter if this goes in all different directions!
Once everything is threaded, tie the wool to finish.
Encourage kids to bring the wool only across the front of the plate, the back will be quite clear as you can see here
