Confidence is a vital trait for everyone to try and possess, and it especially lays the foundation for a child’s well-being and success.

As parents, you’ll want to know how to best foster confidence in your little ones, as it’s an invaluable skill that will benefit them throughout their lives.

Building this self-assurance from an early age, especially if they attend Grandir nurseries, involves a combination of support and encouragement from you to allow your children to flourish.

Here are some effective tips and tricks to empower your children and help them grow…

Celebrate all efforts

Within anything your child does, there will likely be mistakes, so don’t only praise your children for their achievements – praise them also for their efforts and persistence, even if results aren’t always what they want. It also teaches them the value of trying rather than simply succeeding.

Ensure that you highlight the value of hard work and dedication and not just the end result.

This will encourage your child to recognise their own determination and resilience to build their confidence in their abilities to overcome various challenges.

Encourage positive self-talk

It can be very easy for adults to adopt a negative mindset, but it’s easier to instill a positive mindset in the younger ones.

To do so, teach your children about the power of positive self-talk and to replace negative thoughts with affirming statements.

Rather than looking at a challenge negatively, they can reframe any setbacks by looking at them as an opportunity for growth.

Try new things

From an early age, it’s also best to encourage your children to try new things – whether that be a new food, sport, or artistic endeavour.

Helping your child to explore unfamiliar territories helps them to build their confidence by being able to discover new interests.

These could lead them to have a new passion for something like painting, for example, and then you can support them on their artistic journey!

Offer specific praise

Rather than telling your child things like “well done”, try to be specific when giving them praise – try saying things like “I appreciate how you helped your brother tidy up their toy box today”, for example.

Acknowledging these specific actions and efforts they’ve made reinforces these positive behaviours, whilst building self-confidence in knowing what exactly they’ve done right.

Be a role model

There’s no better way to teach your child about confidence than demonstrating this yourself.

Although it can be difficult, you can show your children this skill in many ways, such as openly acknowledging mistakes and how to rectify them, rather than looking at them negatively.

Children often copy behaviours they see, so observing the positive things you’re doing will help to inspire and guide them throughout their journey.

Encourage self-love and care

You can further promote these healthy habits by encouraging your child to take some time out to reflect – which could be as simple as talking through their day and what good or bad things happened and why they won’t let these bad things outweigh the good.

This could also take the shape of regular exercise and providing them with a balanced diet to help with the physical side of things.

A healthy lifestyle in all areas enhances this confidence and better well-being.

Helping your children to flourish with these self-confidence tips will get your children’s personal growth started right, helping them as they enter every new year!
