With New Year’s Eve around the corner, we have been enjoying some fun New Year’s activities for kids.
Today we decorated some plain t-shirts for a “make your own new year t-shirt” activity to keep the boys entertained at home. This activity is great for indoor fun on a cold day and gives kids the opportunity to use their creativity and express their own personalities.
We’re still waiting for the fabric paint to dry, to add a few extra details but with only one day to go before New Year’s Eve, I thought we better share the idea with you all already!
To make these new year t-shirts the boys used plain white t-shirts and permanent fabric paint. You can also use iron on transfers, ribbon, sequins and pom poms glued on to the t-shirt or anything else that takes your fancy.
To design their New Year t-shirts the boys started off with the numbers of the New Year as a starting point and then decorated out from there.
For younger children, an adult can write out the year for them and then let them colour and decorate it.
I did help Mr T (5) and Mr R (4) with this, while Mr Z (6) did all of his by himself.
They drew pictures of the world, of rockets, and of Spiderman. It seems like Mr R is really hoping for a spiderman filled 2015!
You could draw a big star and fill it with words of encouragement or inspiration for the new year, or with resolutions. You could decorate with a fireworks design, or include memories of the best moments of the previous year or hopes for the year to come.
With young children, even if the drawings and writings are not so neat and tidy – it will still be meaningful to them.
I don’t think the boys will stay awake until midnight for new years eve, but they can put their special new year’s t-shirt on before they go to bed, so they will be celebrating the New Year in their sleep!
Thanks to Buytshirtsonline for sending over the T-shirts and decorating supplies.
