Are you thinking about changing your home? If so, then you might want to ensure that it is kid friendly and great for your children. These are some of the possibilities that we recommend exploring.

Flooring Choices

First, let’s consider the option of flooring. There are two things to think about when it comes to flooring if you have kids running around your home.

One is safety. You need to make sure that your kids are not at risk of a serious injury if they slip or fall around your home. This means that particularly hard floors should be avoided including options such as granite, marble and hardwood.

These have no give and even a minor fall could hurt a child a lot. While they look great, they are simply not as practical as they seem for a family home.

A great alternative definitely worth exploring is going to be laminate flooring. Laminate flooring fits well with the second requirement which is maintenance.

Laminate floors are very easy to maintain overall. To do this you just need to make sure that you are wiping them clean with a damp cloth. This will remove virtually any stain or mark that might appear whether that’s dirty footprints or muddy paws.

Laminate flooring is also available in a wide range of different aesthetics. As such, your home can still look great with this particular option.

Do be aware that you can dress up a home like this with the right choice of rug. You can even buy high quality cowhide rugs at affordable prices that will look wonderful in your home.

Garden Options

Next, you should consider garden options. If you have kids, then it’s great if you can get them outside as much as possible. Getting kids outside will mean that you don’t have to worry about issues with them having an unhealthy lifestyle.

They’ll get plenty of exercise and they’ll stay active throughout the day. To do this, you need to think about ways that you can change your garden to ensure that it is more kid friendly. There are a few ways to get this right.

For instance, you can think about adding a play area to the garden. There are lots of play area equipment options that will fit into the aesthetic of your home and look tremendous.

For instance, you might want to consider possibilities like a full wooden play area. As well as looking beautiful and blending in with the rest of your garden, this could even make the home more attractive to future buyers looking for a great place to start a family.

Do note that when it comes to garden choices for kids, you might want to ensure that they aren’t going to ruin your backyard. If that’s the case, then you could consider exploring options such as astro turf.

Astro turf will stay green all year around and it won’t be impacted by things like ball games. This is great if you want to ensure that your home remains in the top condition.

Security Possibilities

It’s all too easy to see your home as a haven for your kids and this is understandable. However, it will only be the case if your home is secure and well protected.

That’s why you might want to think about making changes that will guarantee that your home is more secure. For instance, you could reinforce your home with new windows.

These won’t break if a ball hits them and will also provide an extra layer of security against burglars. While most burglaries are not violent, there is no way to guarantee that this will be the case. As such, you do need to think about what’s going to be best for your kids.

You might also want to think about adding new locks to your home. The right smart locks will ensure that the entrance points of your home have a higher level of protection.

There will be no need to worry that your home is vulnerable if someone does try to enter it without your permission. Smart locks can also help you ensure that your children do have more independence while ensuring that you know when they arrive home safe and when they are out the house.

New Playroom

You might also want to think about adding a playroom to your home. A playroom is great to ensure that the mess from kids remains in just one area of the house rather than being spread out around the rest of the property.

It also provides a space where they can freely explore ideas without worrying about creating a mess. There are lots of ways that you can design and decorate a space like this to ensure that it is going to be a great place for your kids.

For instance, you might want to think about the colours that you use to decorate this space. One example would be green shades. Green has been shown to provide benefits for creativity and innovation.

As such, it could be a fantastic option if you want to make sure that your kids do feel inspired to create and learn in new and exciting ways overall.

Storage And Furniture Possibilities

Finally, you should think about the different storage and furniture possibilities that you are planning to add to your home. Storage is a smart choice as it will ensure that your home doesn’t become a cluttered and jumbled mess.

When you are exploring different storage options, do keep in mind that some furniture choices have built in storage. This is a great way to ensure that areas for storing items and accessories become a seamless part of the design for the room and remain completely hidden.

You might also want to think of possibilities like folding furniture. The big benefit of fold away furniture is that it will free up more space in your home. It will ensure that one room in your property can be used for lots of different possibilities.

For instance, you can use the dining room as a space for dining as well as a space for entertaining guests. You might think that furniture like this is going to look cheap or poorly presented.

However, if you research the market, you’ll find there are options with the perfect aesthetic that you want for your property.

Greener Choices

Finally, it’s fair to say that kids use a lot of energy and we’re not referring to the energy that you’ll spend running around after them. Instead, we mean your actual energy usage and carbon footprint in the home.

This can be massive and you should think about ways to make your home a little more green. One option definitely would be to improve your windows. You can think about upgrading your windows to provide better insulation around your property.

You might also want to think about exploring options such as renewable energy. With the right renewable energy source, you can cut a massive chunk out of your overall energy bill. This is great news if you do have old kids that use a lot of tech that drains energy around your home.

We hope this helps you understand some of the key ways that you can make your home more kid friendly. Don’t forget, this won’t just benefit you. It will also help when it’s time to sell your home.

Most buyers are young couples keen to find the perfect property where they will be able to watch their family thrive and grow.

  1. Thanks for covering such an important topic! I would also consider such a point as indoor air quality. This is extremely important for the child, as it affects health. To avoid poor air quality, I would recommend cleaning the filters of furnaces and air conditioners at least once every 3 months, washing carpets and curtains more often and putting plants in your house.

  2. I see you’ve mentioned reinforcing the home by installing new strong and durable windows – that’s great. It’s also vital to observe window safety, especially when young children are in the home. For example, don’t open the windows wide open for ventilation. And remember that insect screens help keep insects out but don’t help prevent falls from windows.

  3. Good suggestions! By the way, as for home security, I would also recommend installing surveillance cameras outside the house. They can significantly deter bad actors as the criminals know there is a high chance of being identified.
Consider the wireless option. The thing is that wireless surveillance cameras are less susceptible to physical damage.
