Let’s get their creative juices flowing with a heart-building Lego challenge! This isn’t just any ordinary building task; it’s a way to let their imagination take the lead.

With a handful of Lego bricks, they can dive into a world of creativity and engineering, crafting their very own Lego heart. It’s a fantastic prompt that doubles as a playful STEM challenge, where the only limit is the number of bricks at hand.

Whether they follow our steps or venture off the instructions to create something uniquely theirs, this heart-building adventure is sure to captivate and educate in equal measure!

So, grab your Lego bricks (Duplo for the tiny tots works too!) and let’s dive in.

How to Make The Easiest LEGO Heart with Duplo

This one’s a flat, classic heart shape, perfect for beginners, made with just 10 Duplo blocks.

Here’s a quick step-by-step:

  1. Bottom Row: Start with a single short block in the center.
  2. Second Row: Place a long block directly on top of the first short block.
  3. Third Row: Add three short blocks on top of the long block, with the center one directly above and the others on each side.
  4. Fourth Row: One long block in the centre and a short block on either side
  5. Fifth Row: Now to finish the heart, we are just going to put two short blocks on this row, adding them across the lines where the two side blocks meet on the row below, to give it stability.

It’s that simple! You can make this with regular red bricks, but hey, if you want a pink, blue, or even a rainbow heart, go for it!

How to Make a Bigger Lego Heart

Feeling a bit more adventurous? Let’s make a bigger heart using regular LEGO bricks.

For the larger, flat Lego heart designs as seen in the images, the principle is the same as the smaller one, but with more rows and a bit more complexity due to the size.

Here’s how to build these larger hearts:

  1. Start with the point: Place a small number of bricks in the center to form the bottom point of the heart.
  2. Build the width: With each successive row, add more bricks to extend the width of the heart. Each row should have one more brick on each side than the row below it.
  3. Shape the curves: Once you’ve reached the desired width for the heart, start to decrease the number of bricks per row to taper back in. This will create the curved top of the heart.
  4. Form the top indent: To make the indent at the top of the heart, leave out the center bricks on the rows where the heart starts to curve inwards.
  5. Complete the curves: Continue to decrease the number of bricks until you reach the top of the heart, making sure to leave a gap in the center to define the two upper lobes of the heart.

Here are some additional tips:

  • You may need to adjust the number of bricks per row as you go to ensure the heart shape is symmetrical.
  • Use a flat surface to build on, so your heart stays together.
  • Get creative with colors! You can use a single color for a classic look or multiple colors for something more playful.

As this one’s a bit bigger there’s plenty of room to play around with the design. Maybe make it even bigger or use color strategically to add some unique patterns!

This building activity is a great way to teach kids about symmetry, planning, and creative design.

It’s not just about following a template but also understanding the structure and how to adapt it. Enjoy building these heartfelt creations!
