Halloween pumpkin decorating can be such a fun way to let creativity shine, and some projects really stand out for their imagination and attention to detail. One of our Kids Crafts group members, Pamela Roldan, created an incredible Frankenfly pumpkin inspired by the beloved children’s book Fly Guy and the Frankenfly!
Pamela is always coming up with something unique. We also featured her amazing gingerbread house costume last Christmas, and it’s always such a joy to see what she makes.
This year, her Frankenfly pumpkin even won first place in the pumpkin competition she entered, and it’s easy to see why!

Craft projects inspired by children’s books are such a wonderful way to spark creativity while also encouraging a love of reading. When kids bring their favorite characters to life through art, it helps stories feel more real and memorable. Combining books with hands-on crafts turns reading into an interactive experience, helping children connect with what they’ve read and deepening their enjoyment of stories.

Here’s what Pamela shared about her project:
“This is my Frankenfly pumpkin, inspired by the children’s book Fly Guy and the Frankenfly! I had so much fun bringing this quirky character to life using a mix of creative and recycled materials. The pumpkin serves as Frankenfly’s body, while styrofoam balls form his big, expressive eyes. I used EVA foam paper to craft his wings, giving them a soft and cartoon-like texture. The “table” he’s sitting on was made from a recycled box, making the project not only fun but also eco-friendly. I added chenille stems for his arms and antennae, and a bit of wire to complete that mad-scientist vibe!

This pumpkin project was such a fun and imaginative way to celebrate Halloween and express creativity. It’s perfect for kids and families who love arts and crafts — and even better for fans of Fly Guy books! It’s amazing how everyday materials can be transformed into a playful character that brings smiles and laughter.
Creating Frankenfly was not only a craft activity but also a reminder that art has no limits when you use your imagination. Whether you’re decorating for the season, doing a school project, or just exploring your creative side, this kind of project is a wonderful way to have fun, recycle materials, and share joy with others..”
Pamela’s Frankenfly pumpkin is such a brilliant example of creativity, resourcefulness, and storytelling all in one. It captures the fun spirit of Halloween while also encouraging kids to think outside the box and make use of recycled materials.
Congratulations again to Pamela on her well-deserved first-place win. We can’t wait to see what she creates next!
