Easy ways to make someone feel special on their birthday

Going that extra yard for someone’s birthday celebrations shows that you care and, most of all, makes them feel great. Here are some simple ideas so you can do just that!

Handmade gifts

Taking time and effort to prepare a handmade gift for a friend’s, colleague’s or loved one’s birthday will make them feel great. A simple but effective way of doing so is by creating a beautiful handmade birthday card using quality materials.

It doesn’t matter whether you’re skilled at papercraft or a beginner, creating a DIY card is special and unique. Using crafting materials and card making supplies such as double-sided tape, glue, metal dies, stamps and stencils and different cardstocks will make your card stand out on the recipient’s mantlepiece.

Or if you want to go the whole hog, make them a gift. You can’t go wrong with a bath bomb or candle! There’s something special about lighting a candle, especially on a birthday! But instead of choosing from a selection online or in a shop, making a candle allows you to customise the colour, scent, and design. And making them yourself is a fun way to bring out your creative side.

Making bath bombs yourself puts a splash of colour into someone’s birthday. They also work as a last-minute gift as they take around 30 minutes to prepare and can be left overnight to set.

Decorate

Whether at home or the office, putting up decorations will get everyone in the birthday spirit. Use balloons, bunting or even flowers to make them feel appreciated and special on their birthday.

If you share your home with the person whose birthday it is, wait for them to go to bed the night before then get to work. Hang ‘Happy birthday’ banners, blow up balloons – fill them with confetti for extra colour – put out a jazzy-looking tablecloth for a birthday breakfast, and get party poppers ready for when they come down in the morning. Yes, you must go to bed late and get up early. That’s the deal! Decorating their desk or workstation follows the same drill.

Bake something

Do you watch The Great British Bake Off? Get yourself in the kitchen and bake a birthday cake because everyone must blow out candles on their big day! And while you don’t have to impress Paul Hollywood, there are numerous ways to bake a birthday cake that avoid a tasty but bog-standard Victoria sponge.

But, just as many people have moved away from turkey and sprouts for Christmas dinner, you can bake something other than a birthday cake to make someone feel special. Who doesn’t love chocolate brownies, for instance?

Birthday dinner

After a rousing, banner-strewn start to the birthday, top and tail things with an evening meal. To avoid disappointment, let the birthday person choose their cuisine. Whether it’s a takeaway pizza or a home-cooked three-course meal inspired by Nigella, let them decide. After all, it’s their day, you’re just there to make it special.
