Taffy Mail: American Sweets Subscription

I’m quite partial to sweets or snacks subscription boxes. I love the idea of getting a box through the post and not knowing exactly whats going to be inside. It brings that element of fun and surprise that can brighten up your day.

Taffy Mail is a new subscription box bringing a monthly selection of American sweets and treats direct to your door. I couldn’t wait to give it a try!

Candy Crate UK : American Candy

This is just part of what we received in the box. You will get a random selection of American goodies each month, including well known names like Hershey’s, Wonka candies, Pop Tarts, Reese’s, Junior Mints, M&Ms and even drinks – You will get one American soda included. Ours was A&W root beer.

Each box is 1kg and you will get:

  • Surprise selection of American candy bars, from Tootsie Rolls to Laffy Taffy.
  • Surprise selection of American chocolate, from Hershey’s to Reese’s.
  • Surprise treats month-to-month including Pop Tarts, chewing gum and more!
  • Can of 355ml American Soda, from Root Beer to Vanilla Coke.
  • Free postage and packaging, to mainland UK.
  • Cancel your subscription any time, without hassle.

I had not tried most of these American candys and chocolates before, but I do hear the names mentioned a lot by Americans when talking to friends online, or when reading American blogs or even on TV too so I was quite excited to try everything out. I love trying new things and products from different countries. I find it fun to browse the supermarkets in different countries when we travel on holidays so this idea really appealed to me.

American candy selection from Candy Crate UKI enjoyed most of the candy and chocolate. For those who, like me, may not have tried them before I will give you a quick explanation of what they are and what I thought of each one.

Pop Tarts – I found these a really fun idea. The flavour I had seemed very very sweet so I wouldn’t recommend for breakfast but for having in the afternoon with coffee this was great. It’s very different to any other sweets or confectionary I’d tried. It’s more like a cake bar – but warm.

Tootsie Roll – It’s a chewy sweet but chocolate flavoured. Again this is pretty different to other sweets I’ve tried and I really liked them.

Laffy Taffy – These are small chewy sweets, very soft and quite sour flavours. I liked it but not my favourite (even though I normally love sour stuff)

Cow Lick – It’s like a strawberry pencil, so not too different from some of the UK sweets but it’s nice

Nerds – I remember these from when I was a kid! I haven’t seen them in years so maybe they are like Lucky Charms, disappeared from most of the UK shops but still going strong in the USA. I loved them as a kid and still liked them. They are very sour (I had wild cherry and watermelon flavours) and so fun to eat.

Hershey’s Cookies and Cream – This was nice. Much nicer than Hershey’s Kisses which seem a little bit over rated to me.. I didn’t get to eat much of this, the kids loved it so they finished it all off!

Root Beer – This is the first time I ever tried Root Beer. I have to say when I first took a sip, I did not like it! I did drink most of it though, but I think its an acquired taste and it’s very different to other drinks I’ve tried. It was fun to give it a try though!

Nestle Butter Finger – This is a chocolate bar with peanut butter flavour on the inside. It was okay. I do prefer UK chocolate bars to this, but again it was good to try it!

Pop Rocks – This is pretty similar to the UK ones, but nice.

We had a few more things – Jolly Rancher, Tootsie Roll Pops, and Air Heads but we haven’t finished everything yet. It is quite a lot to last you the full month.

I think this box would be ideal for American expats living in the UK and missing their home grown treats. I know if I was away from home I would probably start missing a lot of our typical UK chocolate so this would be really handy in those situations. For non Americans who want to give it a go, it’s a fun box to try out. It’s a fun way to introduce the kids to different countries too, showing them that the sweets and chocolate that children are eating in America is different to ours. They did find that quite interesting to see.

If you fancy trying out a box you can use the code CANDY2 for £2 off your first box.

If you get a box, let me know what you think and which is your favourite!
