We have really been enjoying going to the theatre as a family lately. There is something so lovely about getting everyone out together, seeing a story come to life on stage, and then talking about the best bits all the way home. We have been lucky enough to see quite a few shows this year including The Hunger Games, Karate Kid, Wicked and Matilda, and it has definitely made us want to plan even more theatre trips.

Matilda was my daughter’s first time seeing a west end show, and such a fun one to see with kids, especially as it is a story they already know and love. There is a different kind of excitement when you watch something live, from the music and costumes to the big moments everyone reacts to together.

Older children and teens can get so much out of a great show, whether it is a big musical, a play based on a favourite book or film, or something completely new. The Hunger Games and Karate Kid were brilliant shows for my older kids. We were so impressed with the staging for the new Hunger Games show, and how the theatre had been designed to give everyone a brilliant view.

We did Wicked as a cousins trip for my nieces birthday which was so much fun! This is one of the shows that has been running for such a long time in the West End and it’s obvious to see why! I’m sure it will continue running for many more years to come as it’s such a beloved show that people go to see again and again.

There are still plenty of shows on our wish list too. I would really love to take the family to see Annie, and Harry Potter and the Cursed Child would be such a special trip for Harry Potter fans. Theatre feels like such a good excuse to make a day of it, especially if you are heading into London for a family day out, a birthday treat or a school holiday plan.

One thing I have learned is that it is worth thinking ahead when you have a particular show in mind. Booking in advance can make planning feel much less stressful, especially when you are trying to find seats together and choose a date that works around school, work and family life.

London Theatre Direct’s Advance Pick tickets are designed for people who can book around 8 to 12 weeks ahead. You can save up to £50, choose your exact date and seats, and have more choice before availability becomes limited.

It is a really useful option when you want to avoid that last-minute scramble and make sure everyone in the family has a good view. I’m currently regretting all my life decisions with a show that’s coming really soon near to us in Liverpool, I should have booked it up straight away but I left it and everytime I go back to sort it out, the ticket options are getting worse and worse as it’s really popular. If you know you want to go, it’s always better to just sort it out straight away!

So this option is definitely something that will make life easier for me. Especially when going down to London, I like to get the shows booked in well ahead of time like this so I know what I’m doing and can also plan travel and hotels around it.

The Advance Pick selection includes popular West End shows such as Matilda The Musical, MAMMA MIA!, Wicked, Stranger Things: The First Shadow and Sinatra. So, whatever type of trip you are planning – from a family outing, a theatre date night, or a special surprise for someone, booking ahead means you can look forward to the experience without leaving it all to chance.

This option also gives you amazing prices, I have my eye on My Neighbour Totoro, since my daughter loves anime and anything Japanese and this is available from just £19 – like what! This is so good.

So, if there is a show your family has been hoping to see, this could be the perfect excuse to get it in the diary.
