Witch on a Broomstick Craft
Make this adorable paper witch on a broomstick craft for Halloween! With just a few sheets of colorful paper, glue, and scissors, kids can create their own flying witch scene — a perfect mix of spooky and cute.
Materials
- Construction paper in different colors
- Glue
- Scissors
- Popsicle stick
Instructions
- First, make the witch’s body. Cut a bell shape from yellow paper for the body, wider at the bottom and narrower at the top. Add a small rounded rectangle at the bottom to be the witch’s leg/boot. You can just glue that behind the body shape.

- Cut the head. Cut a small white circle for the face. Use a black marker to draw one eye and a smile.
- Add the hair. Cut a simple orange trapezoid (a shape a bit like a skirt) and glue it to one side of the face so it looks like hair poking out from under the hat.
- Make the hat. Cut a tall triangle with a curved bottom from purple paper. Then cut a skinny purple rectangle for the hat brim. Glue the brim across the bottom of the hat. If you want, cut a skinny yellow strip and glue it above the brim as the hat band.
- Glue the head, hair and hat onto the top of the yellow body. Now you have your little witch.

- Make the broom bristles. Cut a small strip of yellow paper. Fold it over once or twice to make it thicker, then snip fringe cuts along one end to make the straw texture. Don’t cut all the way through the fold or it will fall apart.

- Wrap and glue that fringed yellow strip around one end of the jumbo craft stick. This turns the stick into the broomstick with straw at the end.

- Glue the witch onto the broom. Stick the witch’s body on top of the craft stick so it looks like she’s sitting and riding it. Her body should cover the middle of the stick, and the fringed end should stick out behind her like the tail of the broom.
- Make the cauldron. Cut a big black oval from black paper.

- Fold this shape in half horizontally so it opens like a pocket. This will be the night sky.

- Decorate the night sky. Cut tiny circles from yellow and purple paper to be magic stars, and a small orange crescent moon shape. Glue these to the front of the folded black cauldron so it looks like a spooky night sky

- Put it all together. Glue the broom and witch across the top edge of the cauldron so it looks like the witch is flying past. Let everything dry.

- Leave the craft folded so rocks, or turn this into a Halloween card by writing on the inside of it.
You can make your witch any way you like, change up the hat color, give her green or purple hair, or add sparkly stars in the background for a magical touch.
Kids love being able to personalize their creations, and this project gives plenty of room for imagination.
This activity is also a great way to talk about shapes and colors with younger children. They’ll be cutting circles, triangles, and rectangles while practicing those fine motor skills. For toddlers, you can pre-cut the pieces and let them do all the gluing themselves.
Once finished, your witch can be used for pretend play too! Attach her to a popsicle stick or straw to make a flying witch puppet that’s perfect for storytelling or Halloween songs.
