Got left over candy or sweets in the cupboard? Print out this game to give you a fun way to use some of it up!
I made this game for my kids to play together, and we had a lot of fun with it, winning and losing candy and racing each other around the board, so I decided to share the free printable game here for all of you too. For frequent play, laminate the board to make it last longer.
In addition to the game print out, you’ll need a dice and something to use as counters. We used Lego minifigures but you can use anything small – plastic counters, buttons, coins or whatever you have to hand.
If you want to play with real candy, then grab a handful to use in the game too.
How to play Trick or Treat
Each player rolls the dice and moves around the board by that number of spaces. If they land on a candy space, they get to take a piece of candy and add it their pile. We only counted the circles with the wrapped candy as “candy spaces” and kept the swirly patterned ones as blank spaces.
As you go around the board, you’ll collect a few pieces of candy but if you land on a ghost – watch out, because you’ll need to put a piece of candy back! When the kids lose a piece, they will get more chances to win it back as the games goes on so it’s not lost forever.
Winning and losing real sweets added more excitement and suspense to this basic game for my kids. Each one finished the game with around 3-4 pieces, and of course after finishing the game (by reaching the Jack-o-lantern pumpkin in the middle of the board) they can eat them.
