What You Will Need

Before we get started, let’s talk about the supplies. Don’t worry, you won’t need anything fancy—just everyday craft essentials you probably already have at home. How To Play The Dreidel Game

The dreidel game is a fun and simple Hanukkah tradition that kids and adults love. The dreidel has four sides, each marked with a Hebrew letter: Nun (נ), Gimel (ג), Hei (ה), and Shin (ש). Each letter represents a different action in the game, like taking or giving pieces of chocolate, coins, or any other small tokens. It’s a wonderful way to bring people together and teach kids about the Hanukkah story. For a detailed guide and a free fuse bead dreidel template, check out this post: Hanukkah Dreidel Game Guide.

We’ve got the perfect craft for you and your kids, and guess what? It’s super simple, ridiculously adorable, and oh-so-fun! Plus, we’ve made it even easier for you by creating a free printable template. Just download, print, and you’re ready to roll—literally, because it’s a dreidel!

Materials

  • Printable dreidel template (download the free PDF!)
  • Cardstock or thick paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick or craft glue
  • A straw or small wooden dowel for the handle
  • Markers, crayons, or stickers for decorating
  • A ruler (optional for extra straight folds)

Instructions

  1. Print the Template: Start by printing out the free dreidel template on cardstock. The thicker paper will make your dreidel sturdy enough for spinning. Let the kids choose their favorite colors or designs!
  2. Cut It Out: Carefully cut along the solid lines of the template. This is a great step for kids practicing their scissor skills, but parents might need to step in for the tricky parts.
  3. Fold Along the Lines: Use a ruler or your hands to fold along the dotted lines. Make sure the creases are sharp, as this helps the dreidel take shape. If you want, you can let the kids color or decorate the template before folding.
  4. Glue It Together: Apply glue to the flaps as indicated and assemble the dreidel into its box shape. Hold each flap for a few seconds to make sure the glue sets properly.
  5. Add the Handle: Use the wooden dowel to make the hole then add the straw. Secure it with a little glue to make sure it stays in place. Now your dreidel is ready to spin!
  6. Decorate and Play: Let the kids go wild with stickers, markers, or glitter to make their dreidels extra special. Once everything is dry, it’s time to spin and play!
