Step Into Sunshine: How Renting Abroad Can Spark Big Changes

I don’t know about you, but I’ve always had this deep-down craving to live abroad. Not just a fleeting “I need a holiday” kind of feeling, but a real, deep-rooted desire to change things up. To wake up somewhere warm, sip coffee on a sun-soaked terrace, and feel that slower, more intentional rhythm of life.

And the more I think about it, the more I realise how much better the quality of life can be outside the UK. Don’t get me wrong—I love aspects of home. But let’s be honest: grey skies, never-ending rain, and the general rush-rush-rush of everyday life can really start to wear you down. There’s something incredibly appealing about living somewhere where the sun actually shows up more than twice a year, the produce is fresh from the market, and people seem genuinely less stressed.

Why Ibiza Is on My Radar

One place that has totally stolen my heart is Ibiza. And no, I’m not just talking about the party scene (although, that can be fun in the right doses). What really draws me in is the other side of the island—the peaceful beaches, the olive groves, the quiet villages where time seems to slow down.

Ibiza has this unique blend of bohemian charm and luxury comfort. One moment you’re sipping sangria under string lights at a rustic café, and the next you’re hiking along the cliffs with views that honestly look like a postcard. It’s dreamy in every sense.

And if you’re even remotely curious about living abroad—or you just need a proper break from real life—do yourself a favour and rent a villa in Ibiza for your holiday. It’s one of the best ways to experience what life on the island could actually be like.

The Smart Way: Try Before You Buy

I’m not one to make huge, life-changing decisions on a whim. I need to feel things out, get a sense of how the day-to-day flows, and see if a place truly feels like “home.” That’s why, before ever considering buying a property abroad, I’d always rent first.

Renting a villa gives you that golden opportunity to live like a local—without the strings attached. You get to see what it’s like doing the school run in a new country (if you have kids), shopping at local markets, finding your favourite bakery or beach spot, and adjusting to the local rhythm. And if it doesn’t feel quite right? No big deal—you just try somewhere else.

Plus, it’s way less stressful than buying straight away. No legal headaches, no major financial commitments. Just you, the sunshine, and time to explore.

A Taste of the Good Life

There’s something about waking up to natural light, eating outside, and having more time for connection that just feels right. People seem more present abroad. Meals are slower, conversations deeper, days more relaxed. And don’t even get me started on how much more energised I feel after just a few days in the sun.

In the UK, we often get caught in this cycle of “get up, commute, work, repeat,” with barely any time to breathe. But abroad—especially in places like Ibiza—life invites you to pause. To savour your morning, to take that walk after dinner, to watch the sunset just because. It’s a lifestyle shift, and one I could get very used to.

Living Abroad: A Realistic Dream

I’m not saying I’m ready to up sticks tomorrow (although believe me, the temptation is real some days). But I am making it more of a priority to explore what life could look like outside the UK. Renting a villa for a few weeks—or even a couple of months—is my way of trying it on for size.

It’s about giving myself permission to imagine a new kind of life, and maybe even take the steps to make it happen. Because why not? Life’s too short to ignore those dreams.

So if you’ve ever found yourself daydreaming about warmer weather, a slower pace, and a bit more joy in the everyday, maybe it’s time you explored it too. Start small. Rent a villa in Ibiza for your holiday, breathe it all in, and see where it takes you. Who knows—this could be the start of something amazing.
