I often enjoy doing puzzles together with the kids, but it’s nice to have the chance to do a grown up puzzle for myself too. Ravensburger have a wide range of 1000 piece puzzles which offer more of a challenge, and are very relaxing to put together. I was sent the Supermarket puzzle to review, from the Best of British range. This puzzle is a humorous one, drawn in cartoon style and was plenty of fun to put together.
The puzzle depicts a typical supermarket scene, but in an exaggerated and jokey way. The store is called “Cheapo Save” with the tag line of “Where you get less for a whole lot more” and the small details in the puzzle poke fun at the typical sales and signs in the supermarkets, and at the behaviour of some of the supermarket customers and staff.
This puzzle is a bit different to other Ravensburger 1000 piece ones that I’ve tried, which have been more of a realistic style, without any added humour, so this made a nice change and I enjoyed spotting all the little jokes as I put it together.
I was able to complete the puzzle over two days, and found that it was quite manageable, but with enough tricky bits to keep it interesting.
The way that text and speech bubbles are included did help me quite a bit, so it was slightly easier than some other 1000 piece puzzles I’ve done and it would be a good one to get started with if you feel tempted to give puzzles a try.
This puzzle is part of the Best of British range, drawn by Midlands based artist and author Geoff Tristram, and it is the 15th one to be released so there are plenty of others to try after this too, if you want to get stuck in to all of the different designs!
The finished puzzle is 69.9cm x 49.7cm when completed, so it is quite large but I had plenty of space to put it together on my dining table without causing too much upheaval. As always with Ravensburger puzzles, the pieces are good quality and don’t rip or tear or bend easily, and have good quality colour and print. I always enjoy using Ravensburger puzzles and have been disappointed when I bought another cheaper brand of 1000 piece puzzle in the supermarket once – so I would rather stick to a quality brand these days!
