Not your usual pumpkin shape, these lanterns feature various Halloween scenes like spooky graveyards, prowling black cats, and flying witches, cut out within a traditional lantern outline.

Perfect for kids of all ages, this fun pumpkin craft enhances fine motor and scissor skills while bringing much joy and Halloween spirit into your home or classroom.

Just print, cut, fold, and glue - an easy craft ready to light up your Halloween festivities!

Materials

  • Your choice of one of the 7 free templates from the PDF file
  • Glue stick or school glue
  • Scissors
  • Black construction paper, black paper or cardstock
  • Optional: orange paper, green paper, tissue paper in different colors eg red or dark purple paper, or glitter for additional decorative elements.

  • Printer for the template

Instructions

  1. Select your favorite jack-o'-lantern template from the variety of shapes provided in the downloadable pack.
  2. Print the templates. Little kids through older kids can then cut out the lantern and the negative space, showcasing the Halloween-themed designs.
  3. Optional: add colored tissue paper to the space within the lanterns, for a stained glass effect. You can glue this down on the back of the template before folding.
  4. Glue the edges together using a glue stick or school glue to form a three-dimensional lantern, using two matching sheets from the printable to get all four sides
  5. Add a battery powered candle inside for the light - small tea light sized candles are great as they are not heavy, and will flicker inside your lantern to provide a subtle glow.
  6. For extra flair, cut a long strip and add a handle at the top. Otherwise you can leave the lantern as it is and display on table, floor, at the doorway etc.

Once you’ve put together these printable halloween lanterns, you could add a battery tea light inside, making sure you’ve use cardstock heavy enough to hold it.

They are perfect to take out trick or treating as the perfect way to light the way in the dark, and a super fun activity to make together with kids before going out trick or treating as a group. 

You can use black card stock to put together these lanterns, or use white card stock and color your chosen lantern coloring sheet to customise before assembling.

This adds an extra element of fun and creativity for young kids. You could add glitter too in all kinds of Halloween colors like orange, green, black or purple. 

This step is not only much fun but is also a perfect activity for developing their fine motor skills.
