Materials
- Colorful construction papers
- Popsicle sticks
- Scissors
- Glue
- Free printable template (available for download)
Tools
- Printer for the template
Instructions
- Start with a Template:
Begin by printing the free template that I've created for you. This template has all the shapes you need to bring your Muslim family to life! Cut out the templates for the mother, father, son, and daughter.
- Trace and Cut:
Once you've got your templates ready, trace them onto the corresponding construction papers. Pick colors that resonate with you or follow traditional attire colors for an authentic touch. Cut out these traced shapes carefully. - Assemble the Mother:
Refer to the photos I've uploaded for guidance if needed. Piece together the mother's hijab, dress, and body.
Once she's all set, glue her to the top of a popsicle stick.
- Create the Rest of the Family:
Now, repeat the process with the father, son, and daughter. For the father, you might include a kufi or a beard, and for the children, personalize them with your kids' favorite colors! Each family member gets their own popsicle stick.

- Let the Storytelling Begin!:
With your family puppets complete, it's time for the fun part. Encourage your kids to create stories with their new toys.
Whether it's a day in the life of their puppet family or a festive celebration, the possibilities for imaginative play are endless.
Why We Love This Craft
This craft isn’t just about making something adorable (though they certainly are cute). It’s a hands-on way for kids to engage with and reflect on their cultural identity. For non-Muslim kids, it’s a fantastic educational tool to learn about and respect the traditions of their Muslim friends.
Crafting together is also an excellent time to discuss the values each family member represents and how those values are important in your own family. Plus, it can be the perfect moment to introduce kids to stories and teachings of Islam in a way that’s interactive and relatable.

By the end of this little project, you’ll have a charming set of muslim family puppets and, hopefully, a deeper connection with your children.
Crafts like these are more than just playthings; they’re conversation starters, teaching tools, and a way to celebrate the beautiful diversity of our communities.
