This adorable project is perfect for kids to make as a heartfelt gift for their teachers or as a special back-to-school card for friends. If you change the message on the front, this pencil card is also perfect as a thank you teacher card at the end of term.

Back to School Pencil Card

Ready to kick off the school year with a fun and simple craft? This adorable pencil card is perfect for welcoming back teachers or making new friends smile!

Materials

  • Colored cardstock (yellow, pink, gray, white, and black)
  • Red ribbon
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Ruler
  • Red and white markers

Instructions

  1. First, gather all your materials. You'll need colored cardstock in yellow, pink, gray, white, and black, a red ribbon, glue, scissors, a pencil, and a ruler.
  2. Take your yellow cardstock and fold it in half, to create a card shape which opens.
  3. Start by using a ruler to draw diagonal lines to create the sharp end of the pencil.
  4. Then, beginning cutting out this base pencil shape from yellow cardstock. Make it a rectangle with a pointed top, just like a pencil.
  5. Then, cut a a white triangle for the pencil tip
  6. Continue with a small rectangle from pink cardstock for the eraser, and a gray rectangle for the metal band.
  7. Add Details - Use a pencil and ruler to draw lines on the yellow base to create the look of a pencil.
  8. Cut a small black triangle to add at the top of the white triangle to mimic the pencil lead, or color this section with a black marker
  9. Add the red circle with the star shape
  10. Glue all the Pieces Together. Start gluing the pieces together. Begin with the pink eraser at the bottom, then the gray band above it. Glue the white triangle at the top, adding the small black triangle on it for the lead.
  11. Add a Bow. Cut a small piece of red ribbon and tie it into a bow. Glue the bow onto the pencil card for an extra cute touch.
  12. Add a Message. Finally, use markers to write a cute message on the card. Here are a few ideas:

    “Welcome Back to School!”
    “You’re the Write Teacher for Me!”
    “Have a Sharp School Year!”
  13. Let everything dry completely, and your pencil card is ready to make someone's day!
