5 DIY Projects You Can Do This Summer

Now that the summer is here, it’s time to make the most of the longer hours and warmer weather. You can arrive back from work and still have a few hours of daylight to get stuck into those projects. Or even enjoy your weekends and slowly work your way through the ‘to-do’ list in the evenings. Here are five DIY projects you can get started on in time for autumn and winter.

1. Do Some Much-Needed Work in the Kitchen

We’re not suggesting that you completely rip everything out (countertops and all). Instead, you can fix the broken door on the cupboards. Or you can finally get around the putting up your spice shelve or wine rack. Perhaps while you’re at it, you might want to invest in new appliances. You can finally get the new oven or a replace the older model of your microwave. Start small and then you can get the bigger projects done later.

2. Get to Work in Your Garden

There’s nothing more fulfilling than sitting in your garden with an ice cold drink in the warm summer air. Maybe enjoying a cold beer or a glass of wine with your partner. Perhaps sipping on a fresh lemonade with your children. Either way, the garden needs a lot more maintenance. And now is the best time to get it done. Think about if you want to replace your flowerbeds or if you need to prune the trees. A fun alternative is to build a birdhouse so that you can watch the birds later in the year. This doesn’t have to be difficult. All you need is some wood, nails and glue. It is important to use the right materials and to pay attention to the quality in order to enjoy it for a long time.

3. Upgrade Your Bathroom

The bathroom is usually one of the last parts of the house to get an upgrade. Most people only spend a relatively short time inside throughout the day. But this summer might be the time to change the layout. You can make this as big or as small of a project as you want. Smaller projects might involve adding a towel rail that complements the décor of the room. Or maybe you want to get a new mirror. Longer ones could involve completely pulling out the tub and replacing it with a walk-in shower.

4. Freshen Up Your Living Room

Perhaps it’s time to change the wallpaper in your living room. Or maybe you want to get a new carpet so you feel cosier in the colder months. You won’t have to replace the entire furniture (unless, of course, you want to). But a fresh look might be just what you need.

5. Odd Jobs Around the House

Every home in the world has something that needs repairing or replacing. This might be oiling the squeaky hinge on the bedroom door to attaching a new handle to the knife drawer. Have a walk around your house today and you can come up with a list of what you can start tomorrow.

Nobody wants to come home when it’s cold and dark and then have to get the tool box out! Make the most out of the summer months to get your house looking nice for autumn.
