Have you tried out the new Tree Fu Tom 3D Adventures app by Crane Media? It’s brilliant for any little fans of Tree Fu Tom. Here’s what we thought of it:

Tree Fu Tom 3D Adventures App

Tree Fu Tom 3D Adventures is an app with a lot of play value. It allows children to explore with the characters in their own real world surroundings. This is something pretty new on iPad, I haven’t seen it on any other children’s apps before and it works brilliantly for such character based apps where young children can get such enjoyment from seeing characters like Tom and Twigs interacting in their own room. It only takes a minute or so to set up the 3D adventure, which may be better done by an adult, and once that is in place it’s very easy for a child to use. Within this 3D adventure, children can take pictures of the characters in their home and if parents are on hand to help then they can also share these via social media.

As well as the augmented reality feature the app includes three great games:

Nectar Collector: Users have to help the bees gather honey against their own world backdrop.

Slimeweed Defence: Users have to tilt their device to defend themselves against the slime-spitting weeds.

Aphid Rescue: Children first trace their finger around the pattern to activate the ‘Super Net Go Spell’ then touch left and right on the screen to bounce the baby aphids on the Net and give them a soft landing.

The boys enjoyed playing all of these, and they have been handy for keeping them entertained while waiting out and about.

As you can see above, Mr R and Mr Z are playing the Nectar Collector game. All of the Tree Fu Tom games worked well for all boys, who have an age range of 2-5 years. Each game can be set to easy or hard to help the app span across the age range.

To celebrate the launch of this app we attended a live Tree Fu Tom show at Westfield White City which the boys really enjoyed. You can see a picture in this post.

Tree Fu Tom is a character which they all love, and I am quite fond of him myself as the show was created with the support of the Dyspraxia Foundation. Mr T has Dyspraxia so I’m very happy to encourage him to do all the moves alongside Tree Fu Tom.

The Tree Fu Tom 3D Adventures app is available from the app store for £2.99. This is an official licensed app and due to heavy graphics and processing requirements this is only recommended for use on iPhone 4S, iPod Touch 5th generation, iPad 2 or newer devices.

What do you think of the app? Let me know in the comments

  1. I wouldn’t usually pay that much for a child’s app but this looks really cool. I might have to get it to have a go myself! Thanks for the review 🙂

  2. This does look fun, and my 4 year old loves Tree Fu Tom. Though I usually put a 99p limit on apps for the iPad I might be tempted to splash out because it looks like he’ll get a lot of play out of it. #blogclub
